Job Purpose
The Chief Commercial Officer (COO) will direct Commercial Services and ensure that the company is the leading ICT/Telecoms and multi-media service provider in the Country in line with Company’s strategic intent and goals. The key function of the CCO is to develop all commercial strategy in line company’s overall business strategy, build the commercial ecosystem to implement this strategy and operationalize through the structures, peoples, platforms, and processes. The CCO is driven by corporate KPI’s such as revenue, ARPU, subscriber penetration, market share, revenue share and EBITDA contribution. The CCO forms a performance culture and leads a commercial organization to achieve quarterly and annual targets.
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
Strategic and Business Planning for Consumer Services
• Participates in and contributes to company strategic Business Plan by developing strategic direction and plans for company about all B2C and B2B functions including sales, marketing, business development, and customer support/customer experience.
• Leads the Commercial Services Division to ensure growth and profitability of company through the achievement of revenue targets and customer acquisition and retention targets; maximizes ARPU. Builds and establishes the company brand structure, thematic branding, and product branding. Assures effective market communications through all channels to increase brand awareness and brand perception.
• Through branding and services, achieves superior NPS.
• Conceptualises and develops marketing channels that are customer- orientated and relationship-driven.
• Identifies and understands company customer base to determine the optimum methods of growing and maintaining the required revenue and customer market share;
Sales and Distribution
• Approves, through the Sales and Distribution Director, the development and management of the Sales and Distribution infrastructure and ecosystem for both GSM and Mobile Money (Mpamba), including effectiveness, engagement, and procedures to ensure that the channels are operating in line with company strategy
• Develops, with the Sales and Distribution Director, the incentives schemes, to incentivize distribution stakeholders (such as Dealers) for approval by the CEO and/or the Board
• Provides oversight to Regions teams on Sales and Distribution function, through the Sales and Distribution Director
• Develops, through the sales team, the pertinent strategies on how to achieve growth within each market segment for approval by the CEO;
Management of Business Services
• Develops the policy on enterprise customers to ensure clarity of service and response and informs the relevant Managers.
• Develops a sales pipeline to meet sales targets and manages Business Services Director to achieve pipeline sales.
• Receives, analyses market information and business intelligence from Business Services Director and takes appropriate actions;
Management of Mobile Money Sales
• Identifies opportunities to develop and grow Mobile Money products and services in the market through the sales and Distribution team and through the creation of value and exploiting emerging demands in the mobile commerce space;
• Develops the strategy on the methodology to manage Dealers, Super Agents and Agents, and mobile salespeople;
Management of the Marketing Function
• Plans, develops, and ensures the implementation of organisation’s brand strategies, consumer product marketing, internal marketing, and related consumer activities
• Oversees market research, leads all market analysis, and adjusts the marketing strategic approach, based on the market and customer demands and tests.
• Develops and implements, through the Marketing Director, the strategic marketing plans to achieve corporate objectives.
• Oversees advertising and promotional activities, including print, online, electronic, and other media;
• Develops the marketing budget for submission to the CFO and CEO for approval;
• Monitors the marketing budget inclusive of advertising and promotional activities, identifies variances, and takes corrective action through the Marketing Director
• Ensures the establishment and maintenance of a consistent corporate image throughout all product lines, promotional materials, and events in line with the approved Brand guidelines for company.
• Holds responsibility for all company events and ensures that the brand image is always well represented at all internal or external functions;

Primary Areas of Accountability:
Qualifications and Experience
• Degree in Business Administration, Sales, and Marketing, or similar
• An MBA or equivalent
• Must have a minimum of 8 to 10 years of Senior/Executive Management Experience in Mobile Telecom and Mobile Financial Solutions
• Must have good Southern Africa regional experience with a Telecoms/Mobile Money Company (Regardless of the Nationality)
• Excellent understanding and experience in marketing, strategy, and positioning
• Must have good experience of the Telecommunication Industry, MFS, and allied products
• Must have good practical experience in Mobile Money, Sales and Distribution, and business services customers
• Must be exposed to pricing strategy and revenue
• Ability to work under pressure, performance driven
• Must have P & L knowledge and comfort in analysis and presenting the data/reports
• Must be a member of an International or Regional relevant professional body (i.e. Chartered Institute of Marketing)
