Role Overview
Funsani is a charity that supports Funsani Home, an orphanage in Kitwe for children orphaned by HIV, alongside a number of partner projects and organisations across Zambia.
Funsani is looking for a Manager to oversee the day-to-day operation and management of Funsani Home in Kitwe and supervision of staff.
In addition, the Manager would be responsible for policies, finances, fundraising, developing Funsani’s network of partner organisations and volunteers.
The Manager would be accountable to the Funsani Zambia Charity Board.
This would be a part-time role (ca. 4 days per week) on a one year fixed-term contract, with potential for extension on the completion of mutually agreed goals.
About Funsani
Funsani is a UK-based charity that supports Funsani Home, an orphanage in Kitwe, Zambia. The charity is led by volunteers who believe each child who has been orphaned to HIV deserves an education and support to live a healthy, productive life. Funsani was founded in 2002 by Dr Apakakombwele Chisuse-van der Boom, a UK-based doctor with roots in Zambia.

Since the charity was founded 19 years ago we have supported 15 youngsters who have lived in Funsani Home over the years. The charity is now at a pivotal point where we hope to bring a new group of children into the home and further expand the charity’s impact in a sustainable way.
Key Responsibilities
• Policies
• Thoroughly review and understand the UN Minimum Standards for Childcare Facilities, ensuring that all employees know, understand, and implement them.
• Oversee Funsani Home’s daily operations in compliance with the Minimum Standards of Care to ensure that children are provided with a safe, healthy, and caring environment
• Provide a first point of escalation and counsel regarding any disciplinary or safeguarding issues as they arise
• Provide regular reports to the Department of Social Welfare in line with the requirements in the Minimum Standards of Care
• Staffing
• Lead recruitment of 1 carer, interviewing applicants and selecting the right candidate
• Ensure NAPSA and ZRA obligations are fulfilled for all permanent members of staff
• Provide employees with a job description and assignments
• Submit information on any new employees to the Department of Social Welfare
• Arrange employee training in line with the minimum standards of care
• Finance
• Ensure annual returns are filed in accordance with local regulations
• Carry out financial management, providing monthly financial updates to the UK and Zambia Charity Boards
• Plan medium and long-term financial expenditure for upkeep, maintenance, and capital expenditure
• Identify and secure potential sources of charitable income
• Local networking
• Provide a key point of contact for current and potential donors, partner organisations, and government bodies such as Social Welfare
• Identifying grants and financial support available to support Funsani Home or education of the children
• Liaise with Social Welfare regarding our willingness to bring new children into Funsani Home, ensuring we comply with any requirements or local regulations
• Attend monthly UK & Zambia Board meetings
• Take part in strategic discussions around opportunities to improve operations in the UK and Zambia
• Provide monthly verbal and written reports and updates
• Share pictures and insights that can be used in fundraising and communications materials
About You
The ideal candidate will bring a passion for working with children and a desire to make a positive impact on the world. You must be driven and self-motivated and be able to demonstrate high standards of integrity and trustworthiness in a position of responsibility. As a part-time position this role can be carried out alongside another role as long as this does not create any conflicts of interests.
The following experience is required in line with the requirements set out in the Minimum Standards of Care for the Manager of a Child Care Facility:
• Hold a Grade 12 school certificate or above
• Hold a recognized diploma in child care or a related field approved by Technical Education Vocation and Entrepreneurship Training (TEVETA)
• Have satisfactorily completed at least two years of relevant work in the child care sector
• Have proven management and financial capacities to run a facility according to the Minimum Standards of Care
• A Police Clearance Certificate (Certificate for Criminal Record)
The following technical skills are desired:
• Comfortable working with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Familiar with or willing to learn Google Drive and other online collaboration tools used by the charity
• Familiar with basic accounting principles
