JOB DETAILS:
Position Overview
• Pact is recruiting a Communication Officer for an upcoming 4.5 year, USDOL-funded children labor reduction project in critical mineral-producing communities in Zambia. The project will aim to achieve the following outcomes: (1) Increased capacity of government to address child labor and forced labor in critical mineral producing communities and (2) Increased resiliency of members of vulnerable households in communities producing critical minerals.
• Reporting to the Project Director, the Communication Officeris responsible for external project communications and leading local project communications to support the goals of the project.

This position is contingent upon award.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and deliver a multi-media project stakeholder and participants communications plan within the operating footprint of the project.
• In tandem with Pact’s global communications team, develop and deliver an external communications plan to international audiences to promote project learnings and support the international movement to eliminate the worst forms of child labor.
• Collect project impact stories and photo or video documentation as appropriate, and that is line with Pact’s Child Safeguarding Policy, Photo Policies, extensive guidelines for working within sensitive thematic areas, and all applicable donor guidelines and Zambian law.
• Manage media and other inquiries in line with Pact guidance.
• Prepare and update fact sheets, external reports, online essays, in close coordination and at the direction of the Project Director.
• Other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements
• Devote at least 50 percent level of effort to the project (0.5 full-time equivalent position).
• Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in national and international multimedia communications activities, including social media, digital, video, audio, and print formats, is required.
• Demonstrated experience with drafting and implementing communication, outreach, and awareness-raising strategies and plans on issues related to the technical aspects of the applicant’s proposed strategy is required.
• Demonstrated experience working with and overseeing the work of consultants and external companies and managing the delivery of multi-media communication products and services is required.
• Demonstrated experience with media relations is required.
• Experience in, and knowledge of, child rights and child labor and forced labor issues is preferred.
• Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
• Zambia work experience preferred. Zambian National preferred.
• Knowledge of English is highly recommended.
