Position Summary:
ROCS is looking for a dedicated and dynamic Community Development Officer to lead malaria prevention and control efforts in Sioma and Shangombo districts. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the District Health Office, health facility staff, and community support structures such as Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Community-based Volunteers (CCAs). This role will be pivotal in implementing community-driven interventions, raising awareness about malaria prevention, and fostering behaviours change across both districts. By working with local leaders, health professionals, and volunteers, the officer will help ensure the effective delivery of project objectives and contribute to the overall success of malaria elimination in Western Province.
Key Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and oversee malaria prevention and control efforts in Sioma and Shangombo districts, ensuring alignment with the project’s objectives.
• Foster strong partnerships with the District Health Office, health facility staff, community leaders, and local stakeholders to enhance the impact of malaria interventions.
• Support the development and implementation of community-driven strategies to promote malaria awareness, prevention, and treatment.
• Support and mentor community health workers (CHWs) and volunteers (CCAs), providing guidance and support to ensure effective implementation of project activities at the community level.
• Organize and facilitate regular community engagement and dialogue sessions to address malaria-related issues and encourage behavior change.
• Ensure effective communication and dissemination of malaria prevention messages through various channels, including community meetings, radio, and other media platforms.
• Monitor and evaluate the progress of malaria interventions, identifying challenges and recommending solutions to ensure continuous improvement and successful project delivery.
• Support the collection and reporting of project data to ensure timely and accurate documentation of outcomes and achievements.
• Perform any additional tasks or duties as assigned by the project management team, contributing to the overall success and objectives of the project.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• A degree in Community Development, Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field. A masters degree in any of the above fields will be an added advantage.
• Proven experience in community engagement, preferably in health or malaria-related programs.
• Strong understanding of malaria prevention methods and social behaviours change strategies.
• Ability to work in rural communities and engage diverse stakeholders, including community members and local health authorities.
• Excellent communication skills in both English and local languages.
• Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and report-writing skills.
• Prior experience in project monitoring and evaluation is an asset.
• Willingness to travel within Sioma and Shangombo districts.
