JOB DETAILS:
Overall Job Purpose
To account for the ongoing analysis of constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, tracing costs back to underlying activities, construct and monitor cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management

Specific Job Responsibility
• Construct data accumulation systems for a cost accounting system
• Create and review the controls needed for data accumulation and reporting systems
• Update standard costs in the bill of materials and review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
• Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close
• Accumulate and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principles
• Report on periodic variances and their causes, focusing in particular, on spending variances
• Work closely with superintendents and Heads of Department to ensure that they understand the budgets allocated to them for different projects

• To ensure that the actual budget is within the set limits
• To formulate cost control measures

Experience Required to Perform in This Job
The Cost Accountant – will require knowledge, skills and experience in the following areas:
• Accounting and Mathematics skills
• At least 5 years of Accounting/Finance experience in a similar role and industry
• Experience in manipulating large databases

Qualifications
• Degree in Commerce or Accounting
• must be at least part ACCA or CIMA qualified
• Master’s degree in Cost Accounting is an added advantage
