Context
• Under the Government Republic of Zambia (GRZ) -United Nations (UN) Cooperation Framework 2023-2026, UNICEF supports the Ministry of Educations’ (MoE’s) teacher development and training strategies. The incumbent will support the efforts of UNICEF and MoE to review, update and strengthen the Teacher Education and Development programme/system, under the Education Quality and System Strengthening programme of UNICEF Zambia. The incumbent is expected to contribute to information compilation and documentation of programmes and courses provided by different teacher training institutions (teacher colleges, universities, training centers etc.) and provide useful insights to strengthen school and classroom level teacher performance.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Education Specialist, Quality and System Strengthening, the Education Programme Assistant will perform the following tasks:
• Assist to collect, compile and analyze information on the programmes and courses offered to prepare students to become primary level teachers;
• Assist to collect , compile and analyze information on the trainings and courses available for primary level teachers working in schools;
• As part of a team, undertake interviews with primary level teachers, especially the entry-level (novice) teachers at Early Childhood Education (ECE) to Grade 4, and understand their training needs (all types of schools, Government, grant-aided and community schools); Undertake classroom observations;
• As part of a team, undertake observations of different teachers trainings;
• Assist to draft classroom observation tools and teacher self-assessment tools to help teachers to be effective in classroom;
• Perform any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Required experience
0 years of experience in primary education and teaching, community engagement. Work experience will be an added advantage;
• Community development skills;
• Good communication skills.
