JOB DETAILS:
Game Rangers International (GRI) is seeking to recruit an individual or Institution to conduct an end of project performance evaluation for the USAID funded Community Wildlife Protection Project (CWP).
Background to GRI:
Game Rangers International (GRI) is a Zambian non-governmental organization supporting conservation in the Greater Kafue Landscape. GRI’s mission is to empower rangers and local communities to conserve nature and is founded upon the belief that in order to successfully protect and conserve wildlife one must first empower the rangers who are tasked to look after this wildlife with adequate welfare, training and operational support. Equally and in parallel to this founding principle is the belief that to adequately secure the long-term sustainability of protected areas, there is an urgent need to engage the local communities living contiguous to them such that they become active participants and shareholders in wildlife conservation, receiving tangible benefits at household level. In Zambia, we achieve this mission by working in close collaboration with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) and the local Community Resources Broads (CRBs).
Background to CWP project: Game Rangers International has been implementing the Community Wildlife Protection Project in Mumbwa and Namwala Game Management Areas funded by USAID. The overall goal of the project is to increase community action for combating poaching and other illegal activities in the Greater Kafue Landscape (GKL) in order to improve and sustain benefits from wildlife conservation. The project’s Theory of Change is centred around improving the capacity of community institutions to manage wildlife law enforcement, enhancing key stakeholder engagement, and improving fire management, will lead to improved management of biodiversity in the GKL, and thereby reduce wildlife crime and increasing conditions for communities to realize benefits from wildlife-based enterprises such as sustainable tourism, hunting and game ranching.
Purpose:
The purpose of the endline survey is to assess through an independent consultant the achievements of the CWP project interventions, document any gaps/lessons and recommend measures/strategies for sustaining positive gains and improving programming in biodiversity conservation.
The successful candidate or firm will be expected to complete the evaluation in approximately 40 days from the date of signing the contract. They will propose appropriate methodology to successfully complete the assignment based on the TOR. Please refer to the TOR attached herewith for more details on this consultancy. TOR
