Background
The project aims to accelerate the uptake of innovations in the poultry sector. The project will implement a gender-responsive, private sector-led women and youth focused poultry project (hereafter referred to as AIDI-L) to contribute to improved food and nutrition security and rural incomes in Zambia over 18 months. Specifically, the project aims to:
• Improve access to and scale-up of improved breeds of dual-purpose backyard village chickens, as well as specialized commercial broilers and layers, through private sector agribusinesses providing bundled advisory services and inputs in areas where added advantages for these breeds are identified.
• Support cost-share of start-ups and scale-ups of small-scale poultry enterprises in production, and marketing of locally produced chicken meat and eggs.
• Reduce morbidity and mortality of poultry by facilitating access to, and vaccination of, poultry to key economically impactful diseases such as Newcastle Disease (NCD). Methods would include media advisory campaigns on vaccines, health, hygiene, and production, as well as support to private sector actors to provide extension messaging for existing poultry producers through the Poultry Association of Zambia (PAZ).
Her/his role will be to ensure the poultry component’s objectives are achieved in a timely and effective manner. The coordinator will be based in Lusaka, Zambia and will liaise with NARS, CGIAR and project partners based in Zambia and ILRI scientists and project leader based outside Zambia. He/she will report technical and financial progress to both ILRI leadership and the CIMMYT program lead. The Field coordinator will report to both ILRI and CIMMYT program manager.
Key Responsibilities:
• Management
• Ensure project activities are implemented in accordance with ILRI’s and the donor’s best practices and standards, and local laws and regulations.
• Together with the project implementing partners undertake field visit activities and then promptly report to project management team on the same.
• Support the use and continuous improvement of Zambia’s USAID funded AIDI Program Management Framework
• Support AIDI Program Lead, and Monitoring and Evaluation team, to identify challenges with project processes and to compile lessons learned.
• Support a process and culture of continuous improvement within program management by collating data & feedback, providing input, reviewing outputs, compiling recommendations, seeking approval for recommendations, and making updates.
• Support the design, development, and implementation of tools for data collection and project management within the project.
• Support the generation of regular project level dashboards to present project status, including milestones, financial and impact targets, financial and impact accomplishments to-date.
• Work with project teams to ensure project teams’ records of donor reporting obligations are timely and accurate.
• Track and report on the timely submission of reports
• Support internal and external evaluations of the project.
• Perform any other related duties as may be assigned.
• Partnership
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with project partners, stakeholders, and government officials.
• Incorporate partner inputs to required monthly and bi-annual reports.
• Technical
• Ensure project deliverables are of high quality and meet the needs of project beneficiaries and stakeholders.
• Monitor project performance against indicators and targets, and take corrective action as needed.
• Where possible, provide technical guidance to project staff and partners on livestock value chains development, market systems, and related topics.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, veterinary sciences, development, economics, business, or related field.
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience managing international development projects; livestock value chains development is beneficial.
• Experience working in Zambia and knowledge of the livestock sector in the country.
• Demonstrated ability to work in complex, multi-stakeholder projects, and achieve results.
• Technical skills in inclusive livestock value chains development, market systems, and related topics.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of project management is an advantage.
• Fluency in English is required, with knowledge of a local Zambia language desired.
• Demonstrated commitment to gender equality and social inclusion.
• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships, persuade, influence, and adapt communication style to different situations and individuals.

Reporting: The Field coordinator will report to both ILRI and CIMMYT Program Manager.
Position Location: This position is based in Lusaka, Zambia.
Terms of Appointment: – The position is on an 18-month contract. ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package which includes medical and other insurances.
