Healthy Kids/Brighter Future (HK/BF) is a non-profit organization on a mission to improve the health of low income school-aged children in Zambia. We make schools a focal point for children’s health services through training selected teachers as ‘school health workers’ who provide preventive, monitoring, and curative services as well as referrals to government health facilities. Our goal is not only to improve the health of every Zambian child but also substantially to decrease illness-related school absenteeism so that the health and education of the next generation of Zambians can ensure a strong, vibrant society.
We are looking for a Finance Assistant to work in our office in Lusaka, Zambia. The position will report to the Finance and Admin Manager (FAM) and support financial management within the organization. The ideal individual will have strong verbal communication, administrative, financial and organizational skills. Candidates must be self-motivated, organized, problem-solvers and flexible.
Title: Finance Assistant
Reporting: Finance and Administration Manager
Proposed Start Date: June or July 2019
Primary Responsibilities:
• Update financial spreadsheets and QuickBooks with daily transactions
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual variance reports
• Compile project and activity financial variance reports
• Track and reconcile bank statements
• Review daily petty cash reports
• Assisting with the preparation of end of year financial statements and reports
• Act as a bank agent under the supervision of the Finance and Admin Manger
• Process tax and other statutory payments (e.g. PAYE, NAPSA and withholding taxes)
• Support monthly payroll and keep organized records
• Record accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Process requests and follow-up with staff, suppliers and partners as needed
• Prepare payments and keep organized records on file
• Process retirements, review and organize receipts and file all documents. Follow up with staff and partners as necessary
• Help to ensure that staff follow all financial policies, procedures and regulations
• Provide administrative support to staff during budget preparation.
• Organize, file and financial documentations. Facilitate the timely retrieval of financial documents as requested by the Finance and Admin Manager
• Ensure all transactions are in accordance with donor requirements
• Support annual audits
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance and Admin Manager
Minimum Job Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
• One or more years of relevant work experience
• Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA), Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) or equivalent professional qualifications
• Member of ZICA
• Fluency in English required
Required Skills
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Package and Payroll/HR systems
• Excellent communication and computer skills
• Ability to work under pressure in a multicultural setting and ability to prioritize work
• Must be a team player and demonstrate ability to carry out financial analysis
• Candidates must possess high levels of integrity, accountability and honesty
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
• Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
