JOB DETAILS:
Reporting to: Superintendent Learning and Development/delegate

Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the Northwestern region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km southwest of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of First Aid Trainer – Short Term.

Role Summary
Reporting to the Superintendent Learning and Development/delegate, your duties will include but not limited to the following;

Responsibilities
• Provide theoretical and practical First Aid and Primary Health care lessons up to Gold Medal Certificate to equip employees with skills and knowledge required to handle the injured safely until more qualified help arrives.
• Prepare and implement a First Aid Training program to facilitate first aid training, examination, and certification.
• Coordinate the formation and preparation of the First Aid teams among employees of LMC and business partners for inter departmental and inter mine First Aid competitions.
• Maintain records of employees First Aid certificates to advise on expiry dates and courses.
• Control the purchase of First Aid requisites to maintain and replace damaged equipment and replenish stocks as required.
• Develop, implement and maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness. Promote and comply with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
• Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
• Develop continuous improvement targets for the function and drive and measure achievement of these targets.
• Ensure effective communication with delegate prior to departure from site.


Experience and Qualifications
• Full Grade 12 school Certificate
• Diploma in Nursing or Clinical Sciences
• Gold Medal in Mining First Aid
• Mining First Aid Instructors Certificate
• Accreditation to Chamber of Mines Zambia Council for First Aid
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a First Aid trainer.
• High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in Zambia.
