Main tasks and responsibilities
The advisor supports the implementation of the project “Partnerships for Prevention of Gender based Violence in Southern Africa (PfP-II) with the following responsibilities:
• Lead the conceptualization and implementation of flagship projects aimed at engaging religious and traditional actors (RTA) for the prevention of Gender Based Violence (GBV)
• Manage the partnerships and collaboration with government institutions and civil society organisations for the endorsement and roll-out of effective interventions for GBV prevention – including managing of grants, local subsidies and other contracts
• Provide implementing partners of the flagship(s) measure with the necessary technical expertise and capacity development to undertake their tasks
• Contribute to the identification, design and implementation of new context-sensitive flagship projects and opportunities to prevent violence against women and girls
• Establishing and supporting the necessary structures for the management and coordination of the flagship measure
• Assess capacity development needs of the implementing partners and deals with the design, preparation and implementation of workshops, trainings and other capacity development measures.
• Promote innovation, learning and upscaling, including by supporting the adaptation and introduction of effective approaches for engaging RTA and/or other GBV preventative measures in Zambia and the SADC region.
• Represent the project during meetings with relevant stakeholders at national and regional level, as required/ requested by the Programme Manager and/or the line manager.
• Ensure collaboration with and synergies between PfP-II and other GIZ programmes, in particular the GIZ project “Strengthening Girls’ Rights” and its colleague(s) working on engaging RTA in the prevention HIV, teenage pregnancies and GBV.
• Contribute to operational planning, results-based monitoring and reporting, knowledge management and external communication, in close coordination with the AV, his/her line manager and PfP-colleagues
• Support the AV and/or line manager in commission management process as requested
Required qualifications, competences, and experience
• University degree (post-graduate would be advantageous) in Theology, Gender Studies, Development Studies or relevant Social Science. Formal training in Project management and/or Results Based Monitoring is an added advantage.
• Seven years professional experience in implementing projects in the area of gender, violence prevention and/or GBV. Previous experience in an international organization is a strong added advantage.
• Proven experience in the successful engagement of religious and traditional actors for promoting gender-transformation and human rights
• Strong understanding of social norms transformation, human rights-based and gender transformative approaches
• Track record in the successful establishment of partnerships and networks, including with donor agencies, government institutions, civil society and/or private sector companies
• Proven ability to design, lead and organize processes, particularly in the context of gender-based violence prevention measures
• Pro-active and results-oriented work ethic
• High level of cultural sensitivity and diplomacy
Other knowledge and additional competences
• Fluency in English, both oral and written and good verbal communication skills in Tonga
• Ability to thrive in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment
• Proficiency in working with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Outlook and MS teams
• Proactive and results-oriented work ethic
• Team player with the ability to work with minimum supervision
• Availability to travel nationally and internationally, when required
