GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Head of Department – School of Engineering (HOD) is a leadership position responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the Northrise University School of Engineering (NUSOE) programs.
The HOD leads the School of Engineering educational program design, implementation, and quality assurance. Oversight includes academic programming that encourages maximum utilization of campus resources and facilities and fosters collaboration among disciplines, working with faculty, staff administrators, partnering organizations, and other stakeholders to achieve the mission and shared vision of Northrise University.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• The HOD shall be responsible to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for the administration program and shall exercise the responsibilities of HOD-School of Engineering in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the University.
• Support the development and implementation of policies and standards for the selection, admission, and graduation of engineering students.
• Develop and maintain program curriculum to meet Higher Education Authority, local and national (EIZ), and, eventually, international (ABET) engineering accreditation.
• Develop an external advisory board for the Engineering Program, consistent with accreditation requirements with industry and other engineering professionals.
• Coordinate the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of full-time and part-time faculty and staff.
• Serve as the contact person/coordinator for the School of Engineering regarding regulatory and professional bodies, the community, and partnering organizations.
• Participate in the decision-making processes, effective financial management, development of policies, and operational procedures while maintaining and enhancing quality assurance procedures and staff expertise.
• Oversee course offerings and scheduling each semester.
• Create an entrepreneurial culture providing project and career opportunities for students, graduates, and staff.
• Teach NU Engineering and related courses.
• As required, support maintenance of NUSOE student, faculty, and staff records by Registrar/HR offices
• Prepare and manage budgets and maintain records of income and expenditures.
• Work effectively with colleagues and students by practicing punctuality, respect for deadlines, collaborative problem solving, and honest communication
• Conduct performance evaluations and guide professional-development plans for engineering faculty and staff.
• Actively engage in and support the recruitment of engineering students.
• Coordinate work-study students, particularly as related to graders, tutors, and engineering-related facilities operation and maintenance.
• Perform other functions as required for the Engineering department and the University.
• Perform community service and outreach as needed on behalf of the department and the University.
• First-year focus will include faculty/staff hiring and coordinating the commissioning of the new Engineering building and lab facilities.
• Guide and encourage initiatives that promote program growth and faculty development in step with the mission and vision of the institution.
• Work to establish plans and policies that provide the greatest service to students while providing the best possible stewardship of faculty and staff time and institutional resources.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Master’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering or related engineering field. (Ph.D. highly preferred)

• An active and growing Christian faith and walk.
• A vision for articulating the integration of the Christian faith with the practice of engineering, both in the teaching of students and in the engagement of the topic with colleagues inside and outside Northrise.
