ActionAid Zambia (AAZ) is part of the ActionAid Global (AAG) Federation; sharing common values and aims to drive social change towards a just, equitable and sustainable world. AAZ works with marginalized and excluded women and young people, their organizations, and movements to address the structural causes of social injustice, gender inequality and poverty.
ActionAid Zambia has a vacancy for an experienced and suitably qualified Zambian to fill the position of HUMANITARIAN AND CLIMATE JUSTICE INSPIRATOR.
LOCATION: GWEMBE
CONTRACT DURATION: EIGHT (8) MONTHS
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To mentor youth networks, groups and movements in advocacy and skills of grassroots and civic engagement in relation to Climate Justice & humanitarian Responses using the Human Rights Based Approach. To enhance the ability of young people to participate in decision making processes and to actively engage in national, provincial and district projects and ensure that leaders are accountable with regard to Climate Justice & Humanitarian response. To support and design climate related advocacy strategies targeted to National, Regional and Local Level. Support implementation of activities under Disaster Preparedness and Humanitarian Response Unit. Support in mapping out networks, forums, committees at district and National on Disaster women-led emergency preparedness, response, and prevention. Supporting the development and implementation of communication strategies to raise
public awareness and support for climate justice issues. Supporting young people, especially women, in conducting research and analysis to identify the causes and consequences of climate change and its impact on marginalized groups. Identifying and linking young people to spaces of influence and learning opportunities.
ACCOUNTABLITIES
Key Activities
1. Provide support in assessing emerging trends and systematic changes that are relevant focusing on humanitarian response, environmental and climate policies, practices, systems and structures at Partner organization and AAZ.
2. Support the participation of youth and women in public policy (especially on environment and climate) processes at Partner organization and AAZ.
3. Support capacity building of youth leadership on leadership, climate justice at Partner organisation and AAZ.
4. Development of a database of the organization, movements and networks both private and public.
5. Mentorship of young activists to deliver strong and impactful advocacy initiatives.
6. Support the documentation and sharing of campaigns on climate Justice and preparedness disaster management.
Expected output
1. Enhanced capacity and Knowledge on climate justice change among Youths.
2. Enhanced local movements that links to regional and international movements.
3. Stakeholders sensitized on climate change.
4. Learning and sharing on climate justice.
5. Support capacity building of youth’s leadership, on climate change and justice and sensitizations
6. Support the development of an advocacy and movement building strategy (informed by policy analysis).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
1. A bachelor’s degree in any relevant field from a recognized University.
2. Have at least 1 – 2 years’ experience and understanding in climate Justice and Humanitarian.
3. Experience in working effectively on climate justice and natural resource management.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILL
1. Experience in Humanitarian response and Climate Justice advocacy.
2. Experience in movement building and networking.
3. Experience in Policy work: Policy position drafting, legislative advocacy, as well as policy formulation procedures centered on climate.
4. Experience in working in rural areas with young people.
5. Experience of monitoring and evaluating or capturing learning for projects.
6. Demonstrable experience in peer-to-peer learning.
7. Strong analytical skills and good political judgment is desirable, participatory training methods and action research.
8. Ability to write concise, analytical, and accurate reports to meet agreed deadlines.
9. Excellent oral and written communications skills in English, Tonga and other Local Languages spoken in the Southern Province.
10. Good negotiation/interpersonal skills, able to build rapport with diverse range of people.
11. Experience of youth activism and passionate about youth-led activism.
