JOB DETAILS:
Purpose
The Kozo Instructor(s) will work in Determined Resilient Empowered Aids Free Mentored Safe (DREAMS) Centre’s with the economic strengthening team to ensure quality training provision to the Kozo girls. The primary responsibility of the Kozo instructor is to train and mentor Kozo girls in tailoring and support production of high-quality tailoring products and services for clients. The instructor will also contribute to quality assurance of large institutional orders from clients in terms of quality of products and timely completion of all production tasks and packaging.

Roles and Responsibilities
• Prepare and deliver lessons, tutorials and practical to Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in Kozo groups;
• Design, cut and sew patterns according to client specifications for all Kozo orders;
• Provide learning needs-based support and mentorship to AGYW in Kozo groups;
• Ensure sewing machines are in good working order and properly used for training and other purposes by the Kozo girls;
• Identify and request for training and production supplies and other inputs on time (including support from consultants e.g., other experienced tailors, as need arises);
• Support procurement of correct specifications and quantities of inputs required to produce goods ordered by clients;
• Facilitate customer service surveys and gather customer feedback on quality of deliverables;
• Ensure that the orders are completed on time and of the quality required;
• Support the Kozo girls to produce high quality products for the market and maximise profits.
• Collaborate with Economic Strengthening (ES) Coordinators in facilitating Kozo girls certification initiatives;
• Support ES Coordinator in creating, maintaining and sustaining linkages and relationships with various stakeholders in the public and private sector;
• Collaborate with certification standards such as the Technical Education Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) and TEVETA registered training institutions in preparing Kozo girls for examination.
• Facilitate participation of Kozo girls in own- or third-party organised fashion shows/gala, district shows and other marketing and promotional exhibitions;
• Network and collaborate with other fashion designers, tailors and other industry actors at local and other levels.
• Identity and build capacity of high performing trainees to become peer trainers and mentors.

Additional guidance
• Updated on latest fashion, and supply and demand side trends;
• The Kozo instructor will work closely with the DREAMS Coordinator, Economic Strengthening Connectors and Economic Strengthening Coordinators;
• Participate in the monthly Centre data review meetings;
• Perform any other duties as directed by the supervisor.

Experience and Skills

• Seasoned tailor demonstrated by high quality of designs and finished products;
• At least two years’ experience in teaching, coaching and mentoring AGYW who have not completed formal primary and secondary education;
• At least two years’ experience working with AGYW economic empowerment initiatives;
• Experience in working with large organisational tailoring demand driven supply lines;
• Ability to solve difficult problems and be able to work under pressure and organize and priority competing activities;
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment (working with counsellors, Mentors and other USAID CHEKUP II staff);
• Creative thinking, dedicated, patience and flexibility working with AGYW.

Qualifications
• Tailor with a certificate or diploma in tailoring from a recognized institution;
• A certificate or diploma in teaching methodology or instruction is an added advantage;
• Ability to fluently speak the local language in the district applied for;
• Strong communication, organizational, mentoring and coaching skills;
• Good multitasking skills;
• Team player.
