JOB DETAILS:

The Legal Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice and ensuring that the interests of the University are safeguarded.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
a) Represent the University on all litigation issues in order to safeguard its interests;
b) Conduct research, prepare and file court documents;
c) Provide advice to the University on all legal matters in order to make informed decisions and ensure adherence to the laws of Zambia;
d) Ensure correct interpretations of legal matters affecting the University;
e) Identify and propose new amendments to legislation and regulations for the
University;
f) Coordinate the drafting and review of all contracts and agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) for the University before submission to the attorney General in order to facilitate easy vetting;
g) Ensure that required accreditation to all regulatory bodies is complied with by the University; and h) Provide legal opinion on all agreements and contracts in order to ensure adherence to contractual obligations.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
a) Grade 12 School Certificate or its equivalent which should include English, and Mathematics;
b) Bachelor of Laws (LLB);
c) Masters of Laws will be an added advantage;
d) Seven (07) years of work experience in reputable organizations:
e) Working in a Government institution will be an added advantage;
f) Possess proof of membership to a professional association or organization;
g) Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
