Kariba Minerals is a mining company and has long been a reliable source of high-quality Amethyst for major manufacturers of gemstones and related products. The company’s market share is estimated at over 90% of the Amethyst originating from Zambia, and we are arguably the largest single Amethyst producer in the world. Presently, the company exports mainly to China and India. Worldwide, it is one of the oldest mines for semi-precious stones and one of the largest sources of quality amethysts. Kariba mine is based in Mapatizya which is approximately 110km from Kalomo in the Southern Province.
The company is therefore inviting for applications from highly motivated, result oriented, qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacancy:
Mine Manager
Salary: Negotiable with a flexible work pattern
Location: Mapatizya in Southern Province..

  Key Responsibilities
• Control, supervise and direct mining operations in line with Mining Regulations
• Responsible for reporting accidents in terms of Mine Regulations 1601 and for submitting reports, labor, minerals and explosives returns
• Assist in obtaining statutory permissions (mining license, environmental clearance etc)
• Should have good knowledge in mechanized mining & deep hole blasting
• Determine methods to extract minerals, considering factors such as health & safety, operational costs, deposit characteristics, overburden depth, and surrounding layers
• Lay out and direct mine construction operations, such as location and development, position of excavation benches, and access roads
• Devise methods and locations to store and replace excavated soil to reclaim mine sites
• Analyze labor requirements, equipment needs, and operational costs to compute and prepare annual budget reports
• Apply knowledge of mining engineering to solve problems concerned with the environment
• Interaction with local authorities & community for smooth operations
• Any other duties as may be assigned by the company

• Member of EIZ
• Degree in mining engineering minimum
• At least five (5) years’ work experience at senior level in mining operation
• Ability to work under minimum supervision
• Strong commitment, leadership and management skills
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, influencing and computer skills.
• Strongly results orientated with a clear determination to succeed
• Easy adaptation to a new environment
