Position title: Nutrition and WASH officer

Reports to: Nutrition and WASH coordinator

Number of position: 1

Job location: Nyanza district

Period: One-year renewable based on performance

JOB PURPOSE:

The nutrition and WASH officer will be responsible for the promotion and adoption of nutrition good practices by serving communities through Community Based Nutrition Program (CBNP) and enhance the improvement of the wellbeing of the PLHIV in program operational areas by passing on skills in health (Hygiene and sanitation), nutrition through training and demonstration. He/she will have overall responsibility for regular monitoring and reporting for the nutrition and WASH component activities and will ensure that the program is achieving the expected results and objectives with regard to nutrition and WASH component. He/she will ensure that the activities related to Nutrition and WASH and program approaches (CBNP, PDH, BIAT and ISLGs) are implemented following the standards of FXB Rwanda, MoH and USAID in the area of Nutrition and WASH and that the approaches spread by the program are effectively disseminated and adopted by served HHs.

The major responsibilities include:

• Plan, facilitate and conduct behavioral change activities using recommended approaches for Rwanda in collaboration with community health workers in the Nyanza District.
  
• Closely follow up and monitor behavioral change activities implementation and their output/outcome within the camp and the surrounding community to identify corrective measures for implementation.
  
• Initiate, plan and provide training to parents/caregivers on personal hygiene, water storage and handling and hand washing.
  
• Prepare quality progress reports monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and annually that clearly narrate the activities carried out within the reporting period.
  
• Carry out assessments related to Nutrition & WASH in Nyanza coverage area.
  
• Create and organize the hygiene clubs and WASH committees towards the sustainability of WASH infrastructures and services in Nyanza Coverage.
  
• Create networking and partnership with relevant partners operating in the Nyanza or at the district level to enhance Nutrition & WASH behavioral Change promotion.
  
• Using appropriate M&E tools developed, facilitate data collection, analysis and interpretation of Nutrition & WASH related data at district and village levels and safekeeping gathered information in the program database.
  

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

Qualification required: BSc in Environmental Health, Nutrition, Public health or Social Sciences and related fields with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Nutrition, sanitation and hygiene / WASH activities.

Experience in CPNP, CLTS and PHAST models. Knowledge of CBEHPP being an asset.
Having an experience of USAID based interventions is an added advantage.

Computer literate: Micro Soft word, Micro Soft PowerPoint, Micro Soft excel and internet

The candidate must have a valid Driving license, category A
Other NGO experience will be also an asset
