JOB DETAILS:
The Zambia Daily Mail is a Limited Company wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of Zambia. Zambia Daily Mail Limited (ZDML) is created pursuant to the Companies Act number 10 of 2017. It is one of the leading publishers of daily newspapers in Zambia.
The Company has a vacancy for the position of Production Manager and is now inviting suitably qualified Zambians to apply and be considered for the position. This is a Middle Management position reporting to the Director Commercial.
1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Production Manager of the Zambia Daily Mail Limited manages and organizes daily operations in the production of the Zambia Daily Mail newspaper and any other as may be assigned, supplements and commercial works, post the sub- editors’ stage by:
a. Coordinating publication efforts through the entire production process from inception to the final copy and assigning and prioritizing the work for staff.
b. Ensuring services are provided on time and are of the highest quality at the lowest possible cost.
c. Monitoring supplies and schedules of staff to ensure a smooth working environment.
d. Overseeing imposition of the artworks of the newspaper, or any other work such as flyers posters, exhibits, brochures, books etc. that form the complete printing of the newspaper or any other printed materials the ZDML may take from different clients.
2. SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinating production and determining job priorities in order to achieve maximum utilization of equipment and personnel; developing work procedures, establishing quality standards and decides if quality standards have been followed;
• Ensuring effective operation and maintenance of ZDML printing facilities at all times to produce quality works;
• Conferring with departments and assisting and advising regarding job specifications on requested work as to appropriate format, type of paper to use and colour combinations; estimates cost of jobs for departments and matches users’ need with services available;
• Maintaining accurate records of work in progress for billing and departmental records: maintains records management system of completed jobs for easy retrieval when required;
• Retaining maintenance schedules on machinery and arranges for repair of equipment as required; performs repairs, preventive and routine machine maintenance on equipment; maintains departmental inventory by ordering or requisitioning supplies as and when required;
• Ensures the correct operation of computer to plate machinery and associated machinery;
• Overseeing the production process, drawing up a production schedule;
• Ensures planned KPIs for all staff to ensure efficiency and effective performance;
• Ensure that production is cost effective;
• Ensure the adherence and monitoring of safety processes and procedures;
• Maintenance of production standards and ensuring continuous quality control;
• In liaison with other stakeholders, ensure respective maintenance contracts, productions related materials are procured.
3. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCE REQUIREMENTS
• A good grade twelve 12 certificate with at least 5 credits including mathematics.
• A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• A minimum of five years of experience in managing a similar production process.
• Knowledge and experience in managing production teams.
• Skills and experience in coordinating and scheduling projects.
• Knowledge and experience in the use of Computer to Plate (CTP) Machinery.
• Demonstrable computer literacy
• Good communication skills.
• Must be a fully paid up member of Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) with a valid practising licence.
