Context
• The incumbent will be based in Lusaka and will provide support towards Systems Strengthening of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector. This will involve interfaces with three Government line ministries: Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Education.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of WASH Specialist for the enabling environment, the Programme Assistant will perform the following tasks:
• Coordinate meetings by sending out calendar invitations, arranging logistics, drafting agendas, and taking minutes for the unit meetings;
• Assist to draft terms of reference for individual consultants and firms;
• Support Unit Procurement and Human Resources (HR) processes;
• Assist Draft communication and information materials for Country Office (CO) programme advocacy to promote awareness, establish partnership/alliances and support fundraising for WASH programmes;
• Use Geographical Information System (GIS) software to map partners and UNICEF activities;
• Support collection and compilation of information on local civil society and private sector actors in WASH working locations and capacities;
• Support WASH coordination as needed;
• Collect data for annual work plans and supply plans, core standard indicator updates and other key periodic plans as required;
• Take photographs and draft Unit press releases, Human Interest Stories, Social Media Posts for the communications team to finalize and post;
• Support to monitor UNICEF funded activities and draft reports on those activities;
• Contribute to knowledge management and dissemination of key sector documents amongst WASH stakeholders;
• Share learnings from task forces/working groups and meetings with other members of the WASH team;
• Assist to follow up and monitor WASH activities being implemented by partner organizations;
• Support preparation and arrangement of meetings, report writing and note taking i.e., mid-year and end year joint reviews with the Government, and cooperating partner meetings, workshops and conferences including liaison with districts.;
• Perform any other tasks that may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Required experience
0 years of experience in Civil Engineering, Water, Sanitation, Environmental Health, Social Sciences, Policy, Legal or Finance related activities;
• Strong Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook calendar and email skills are mandatory;
• Graphical, Artistical, Statistical, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), SharePoint, Power Business Intelligence (BI), and other computer program skills are highly desirable;
• Interest in Water, Sanitation, Climate Change, and Hygiene is required;
• Strong writing skills required;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Previous experience in an intercultural experience is an asset.
