Girl Effect builds youth brands and mobile platforms to empower girls to change their lives
We’re a creative non-profit empowering girls to change their lives. Started by the Nike Foundation, we are experts in media, mobile, brand and international development: a unique mix of skills that we use to solve global problems in a different way.
We work across the world in places where girls are marginalised and vulnerable. We create youth brands and mobile platforms for young people in ways they love and interact with. We deliver these through the media and mobile tech they use every day – from apps that build skills, to TV dramas that explore vital issues, to magazines written by girls.
Context of the Role
TEGA (Technology Enabled Girl Ambassadors) harnesses cutting edge innovative technology to conduct peer to peer research with girls and their communities in some of the most hard to access areas of the world.
This role involves the implementation of TEGA which requires a candidate with excellent technical, and organization skills as well as a flexible working style and passion for new technologies and research techniques. It is a fantastic opportunity to be instrumental in shaping an innovative new product for Girl Effect and provides excellent opportunities for technical and personal growth and development.
What You’ll Do

  • Responsible for engaging the TEGA local partner, TEGA translators and any other 3rd party required for the TEGA project. Manage all the TEGA translations documents and content hub translators.
  • Creating agendas and taking notes for internal and external status and following up on task completion.
  • Managing Local Partner for research logistics and TEGA management in the field.
  • Manage the set up of TEGA devices, ensuring all tech is ready for the research, and tech troubleshooting and notify TEGA global team of the research if they are required for tech support
  • Contributing to the client debrief, leading on gaining team feedback and inputting in to the debrief.
  • Manage TEGA Safeguarding and risk assessment matrix with support from TEGA Manager and Safeguarding Manager. Maintain all database of the consent forms.
  • Perform TEGA administrative duties, including payments like raising and processing invoices, logistics for travel, and other practical management tasks as and when required by the team. Support on the management of the TEGA budget, keep track of all project expenditure.
  • Contribute to TEGA studies design, analysis and reporting.
    Who You Are
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, anthropology or other social science and at least 3 years’ full-time experience related to social or commercial research, with a focus on emerging markets or developing contexts.
  • Strong project management, and organisational skills, including budget management
  • Experience in qualitative research tool development, fieldwork, data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience of youth-centered and participatory approaches a bonus.
  • Demonstrated skills in producing high quality, innovative and engaging research presentations and briefings for diverse audiences.
  • Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity about the cultures within which Girl Effect operates and a ccommitment to realizing the potential of girls and to the vision and values of Girl Effect.
  • Experience working remotely with colleagues and/or field agencies and ability to work effectively in multicultural teams with varying expertise, skills and backgrounds.
  • Aptitude for/ experience with digital data collection tools and software.
  • A collaborative team player, resourceful, solution-seeker, positive, energetic, with a can-do attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and adaptable - able to work in complex, unfamiliar and changing environments.
