JOB DETAILS:
The Magobbo Cane Growers Trust represents the farmers of the Magobbo project which is a furrow irrigated sugarcane project situated near Mazabuka in the Southern Province of Zambia. The project is situated on 427 hectares of which approximately 380 hectares are harvested annually. Magobbo Management Company Limited (MMC), the newly appointed management company for the Magobbo project now invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of:
PROJECT MANAGER
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Board of MMC, the purpose of the job is to manage the cane growing, harvesting and haulage operations and the maintenance of the irrigation, road and drainage infrastructure in the project area. .

Main Responsibilities
• All cane growing, harvesting and haulage operations
• Maintenance of the irrigation, road and drainage infrastructure
• Management of agricultural machinery and equipment (own, leased or Contract)
• Ordering of materials required for the project and control of stock levels
• Recruitment and Human Resource administration for all employees
• Formulation of annual Operating plans and budgets for the project
• Control of costs
• Provision of routine and ad hoc reports
• Management of Safety, Health and Environmental issues in the project area

Qualifications and Experience
This position would suit a mature individual who has had experience with commercial farming and who is also familiar with the issues of smallholder farmers
• A Diploma in Agriculture.
• Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in a management position on a commercial irrigated sugarcane enterprise
• Experience in dealing with smallholders would be an added advantage
• Good technical, organization and interpersonal skills with a high level of integrity
• Strong managerial ability
