JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose
• The holder of the position shall be responsible for the implementation of the Social Movement and Governance component in the SPA II Project under the supervision of the Programmes Manager-Global Platform/Youth.
Specific duties
• Responsible for implementation of the Social Movements and Governance component in line with Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA-II) project.
• Provide Support to Social Movements, Activists and Grassroots organizations of Young People.
Capacity Building
• Development of Social Movement and Governance training modules and contextualizing of ActionAid Zambia’s Global Organizing and Leadership development (GOLD) trainings to suit the Zambian context with support of GP Manager/Youth.
• Participate in Facilitation of trainings at Global Platform and other project locations on organizing, Governance, policy, advocacy, state accountability for targeted population and grassroots movements.
• Provide tailor made bilateral capacity building support to Social Movements and Activists working together with Organizing trainers.
Advocacy & Campaigns
• Mobilisation of young people on thematic areas under SPA II and AAZ and establishing linkages at regional and global level (includes digital mobilisation).
• Promote collaboration within CSOs in and participating in networks on Governance and Social Movement initiatives at national and local level.
• Link the project advocacy agenda to national level Governance efforts and campaigns including regional and global movements.
• Identifying and participate in the development undertaking of research relevant to Priority area 3 in collaboration with GP manager.
• Support in designing programmatic and policy initiatives focusing on youth.
• Undertake policy advocacy and campaigns with other link minded CSO’s on policy issues of common interest linked to Youth work.
• Conduct Policy analysis and provide input into policy submissions of Action Aid Zambia and development of an advocacy and movement building strategy.
• Support the Communications Unit in drafting Press Statements, Responding to Press Queries, documentation of Stories of Change relevant to the Work under Civic Participation and State Accountability
• Facilitate district, provincial and national level dialogue between rights holders and duty bearers (Interface meetings) in the targeted provinces focusing on human rights and citizen entitlements in relation to Governance.
Mentorship
1. To mentor Global Platform youth networks, groups and movements in organizing and skills of civic engagement.
2. To enhance the ability of young people to participate in decision making processes so as to actively engage in national, provincial and district projects and ensure that leaders are accountable.
3. To support and design advocacy strategies for quality public service delivery.
4. To support sustainable and innovative youth-led social movements.
5. Tor provide support to the Zambia Youth Parliamentary Caucus on Governance.
MEL
• Assist in monitoring, evaluation and learning as well as documentation of best practices to assess the impact of the project.
• Upload key documents such as reports and updated the Project page on the Contract Management System (CMS)
Related Work
• Support any other tasks as maybe assigned whenever necessary.
• Support in fundraising initiatives related to working with social movements and civic participation
1.2 Minimum Requirements
• A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University preferably in Law, Political Science, Public Administration or Development Studies.
• At least one (1) year experience working with Social Movements, and working in Governance programming, democracy, or human rights Programs.
• Understanding of Organizing and Leadership development for Social Movements and Activists.
• Good understanding Governance issues in Zambia.
• Demonstratable experience in Movement Building, grassroots organizing, campaigns, policy research and analysis, and working with youth networks and young people.
• Ability to identify organizations and facilitate development of partnerships at operational level and use the partnership for scaling up interventions through collaborative alliances.
• Demonstrate experience in advocacy and campaigning, research, and policy analysis.
• A self-starter, able to work under minimal supervision as well as being a team player.
• Excellent communication skills with good command of English as an official language and local languages in the project areas.
• Strong writing skills for project reports and project documents.
