JOB DETAILS:
Purpose
Assist the Superintendent – Isaconvert in directing and controlling the shift operations of the Isaconvert Feed System, Isaconvert™ Furnace, Waste Heat Boiler (WHB) andIngots Casting and Dispstch.

Key Responsibilities
This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function

• Provide direction and control to CROs, Tappers, Casters, and Field Operators.
• Ensure that the feed/matte blend to the Isaconvert™ furnace is correctly maintained within specified parameters.
• Ensure that reagents (coke, limestone and slag) to the Isaconvert™ furnace are added within specified limits.
• Ensure that the furnace products (blister, slag and off-gas) are within the required control ranges.
• Ensure that shift throughput matte targets are achieved.
• Ensure that the waste heat boiler water quality is maintained within specified limits.
• Ensure that Ingots casting, cooling, and dispatch is done In a safe manner.
• Prepare, issue, close and cancel work permits in Isaconvert area.
• Monitor and interpret assay results from process streams
• Monitor and interpret process data via the plant process historian system (PI)
• Maintain safety, house-keeping and discipline in the Section
• Actively seek more information and assistance from other sources as required to diagnose and correct any problems with operating equipment and processes (e.g. maintenance, metallurgists)
• Understand and identify all relevant plant equipments, process control & emergency systems; be able to explain these clearly to others
• Liaise closely with his counterpart in Primary Smeleting, Secondary Smelting, Utilities/Oxygen plant and maintenance section.
• Liase closely with shift maintenance for smooth running of the plant.
• Monitor plant operations and ensure operating procedures are strictly followed
• Maintain an accurate operating log-sheet using computerised or other systems
• Provide training and development opportunities for all direct reports on an ongoing basis
• Other duties as directed by the Supervisor

Qualifications
Required:
• Grade 12.
Desirable:
• Tertiary Qualification in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering or Equivalent

Experience
• At least 2 years of supervisory experience in copper smelting in particular with ISASMELT and/or Anode Furnaces and Casting.
• Exposure to blister tapping i.e making of Polish Plugs or Modified Polish Plugs (MPPs).
