Social Exclusion, Gender, Political and Economic Analysis Baseline Assignment (Consultancy)
VSO is the world’s leading international development charity that works through volunteers to create a fair world for everyone. At VSO we pride ourselves on doing development differently. We fight poverty not by sending aid, but by working through volunteers and partners to create long-lasting change in some of the world’s poorest regions. We bring key stakeholders together to co-ordinate collective action, from local organisations to national governments. Our programmes in Africa and Asia focus on health, education and livelihoods, with an increasing emphasis on resilience, peace building, social accountability, gender and social inclusion. We’re not about delivering quick fixes, but instead we focus on long-lasting, sustainable change that will improve the lives of generations to come.
Role overview
On behalf of the Make Way consortium, VSO wishes to conduct the social exclusion, gender, political economy analysis and selected baseline data indicators. VSO is an International Organisation working towards building communities that are resilient, inclusive, and accountable across all its programmes. VSO uses three fundamental ‘core approaches’ – social inclusion and gender, resilience, and social accountability in all its programming to bring about change among people’s lives. VSO carries out continuous evaluation of its work and systematic assessments of all projects, programmes, and policies before implementing any intervention to understand and improve the work of reducing poverty.
As a development agency, VSO’s vision and mission is to create a fair and just world in which everyone has a chance to live a dignified life. This comes through fair and just laws and systems that respect the rights of everyone, including the most marginalised people. VSO carries out PEA which is informed by a baseline study and a SEGA to establish the power imbalances that exist in different contexts. This understanding in turn helps VSO to design appropriate interventions that address the power imbalances through empowering those affected by inequalities, exclusion, and marginalisation.
