Overall Job Purpose:
As a key member of the Process team and reporting into the Manager Process Plant, the Superintendent TSF & Dams is accountable for the operating strategy and efficient daily operation of the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and Dams to maximise production and minimise costs, while ensuring operational sustainability; The role has direct responsibility for short to mid-term and long-term planning of the major hydraulic infrastructure (TSF & Dams) against the long term life-of-mine plans, inclusive of operations, maintenance and civil engineering activities. The role has a focus on daily-monthly-yearly optimisation.

Specific Job Responsibilities:
• Understand and execute accountabilities of legal appointment under Zambian Mining Regulations.
• The role has equipment, operations, maintenance and civil engineering personnel (including Construction QA/QC) accountability for the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and the water dams.
• Maintain HSE standards and ensure strict compliance within section;
• Ensure all Safety and Environmental incidents are addressed & reported promptly.
• Maintain a very high standard of housekeeping.
• Consistently deliver and exceed the KPI’s of TSF water balance, zero impact of water supply from decant return and TSF operations on plant production and environmental compliance.
• Oversee the daily to monthly operations of the TSF & Dams and personnel to ensure optimised infrastructure stability, equipment utilization and metallurgical performance.

Job Specific Competencies:
• Monitor, control and report on performance indicators, TSF & Dams activities and operational shortfalls.
• Manage, track and report continuous improvement activities to deliver improved operational performance.
• Build TSF & Dams ‘team’ environment with maintenance, planning, reliability engineering, metallurgical & civil engineering, and operations personnel.
• Ensure the diagnosis of TSF & Dams defects is conducted, focusing on identifying root cause, and then the implementation of both corrective and preventative measures.
• Coordinate with peer Superintendents (technical, production, maintenance and environment) to deliver requirements of the section in the context of the whole area, and liaise with the Environmental department on infrastructure at the environmental release site.
• Approve weekly and monthly maintenance plans.
• Ensure both short and long term equipment plans and schedules (both maintenance and production tasks) are in place to deliver equipment capability.
• Support maintenance in the delivery of their tasks and equipment reliability.
• Define, prioritise, obtain approval for and implement capital improvement projects.
• Implement the structure, manning levels and resources to deliver the TSF operations plan.
• Lead the TSF team, composed of expatriates and locals, to consistently deliver and exceed expectations.
• Maintain staff development and training programs, particularly skills transfer and coaching to the national staff.
• Identify and actively manage succession planning for key roles.
• Contribute to the quarterly and annual operations production budget/forecasts.
• Prepare the annual TSF & Dams operations budget and provide quarterly forecasts.
• Control, report and reduce operational costs.
• Implement FQM Way culture across TSF & Dams team – “Smarter, Bolder, Driven, Together;”.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager Processing Plant.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and able to assemble data and provide clear and accurate operational performance reports in both an upward and downward direction.
• Ability to maintain self-discipline within a stressful environment.
• Be diligent and thorough in approach.
• Be enthusiastic and pro-active in manner.
• Computer fluency is a must.
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
• English language fluency.

Experience required to perform in this job:
• A minimum of 10 years of direct experience in technical and/or operational roles of tailings storage facilities and water Dams.
• Experience in earth-works and civil construction highly regarded;
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience at a senior supervisory or management.
• Exposure to large, complex base metals processing plant(s).

Qualifications:
• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Project Management qualifications highly regarded.
• Eligibility for membership of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ), and to hold legal appointment as defined by the Mining Regulations of Zambia.
