JOB PURPOSE
The Underwriting Manager shall be responsible for insurance underwriting management of all classes of general insurance. This person will oversee day-to-day operations of the underwriting unit, be accountable for the underwriting results of the business, responsible for coaching and development of underwriting team and directly handle client broker and agency relationships.

Key Responsibilities
• Manage risk approvals within authority while achieving the underwriting budget and service goals of the business
• Supervise the underwriting profitability of the business; underwriting and pricing of business and the identification of classes of business to be developed
• Interface with other functional support units in the company such as Claims. IT and Finance to facilitate meeting the business objectives
• Drive the product development process of the company, including business development
• Assist in the performance of underwriting audits and perform internal Underwriting audits
• Develop policies, procedures and best practices
• Identify and develop training activities for new & existing employees
• Maintain a high level of knowledge of current industry trends

Key Qualifications, Qualities & Competencies
• Degree in Insurance or related field
• AC diploma or equivalent
• At least five years working experience in the General Insurance industry
• Excellent knowledge of insurance policies and ability to relate policy provisions to the loss exposures
• Good knowledge of claims management
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint and Word.
• Team player
• Sales & Marketing experience will be an added advantage
