The Zambia Institute of Banking and Financial Services (ZIBFS) was established in 1992 with the objective of Promoting professionalism within the Banking and Financial Services Sector. The Institute assumed all the functions previously performed by the Lusaka Branch of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, London. The certificate and diploma examinations of the UK were localized in 2001 and continue to attract a large number of students each year, many of whom are studying full time at colleges that are accredited by the Institute around the country.

The ZIBFS is an autonomous professional body in banking and financial services whose objective is to impart superior financial services knowledge and enhance professionalism in the banking and financial services sector. It is a founder member of the Alliance of African Institutes of Bankers and has strong collaborations with other banking Institutes such as the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance, The Chartered Institute of Bankers in Ghana, the Nigerian Chartered Institute of Bankers, ifs School of Finance (UK), etc. The ZIBFS is also an active participant at the World Conference of Banking Institutes.

Zambia Institute of Banking & Financial Services (ZIBFS) provides Technical Training courses to the financial services industry. During its 25 years of service, ZIBFS has emerged as a premier institute in banking and finance education for those employed as well as seeking employment in the sector, aiming for professional excellence. Since its inception, the Institute has educated numerous members and awarded several banking and finance qualifications, viz., Professional Diploma and Advanced Professional Diploma in Banking & Financial Services, Executive Diploma in SME Relationship Management, academic Certificate and Diploma in Banking & Finance and Post Graduate Certificates in specialized areas such as Retail Banking, Credit Management, and Risk Management. The Institute has also helped graduates to sustain their professionalism through Continuing Professional Development programs.

The ZIBFS administers examinations and certifies qualifications at both academic and professional levels, and it also awards certificates of attendance/completion to candidates who successfully complete short courses.
