JOB DESCRIPTION
Lumwana Mining Company is seeking to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Short -Term Planning Engineer to join the versatile Short-term Planning team.
Reporting to the Coordinator — Short Term Planning, you will be responsible for providing short term mine planning and carry out improvement projects when required to assist with the mining operations.
Your duties will include but not limited to the following:
1. Provide reports on actual production and conduct reconciliations on this, highlighting variances and recommended actions to correct variances outside of tolerance.
2. Monitor actual and design pits to ensure achievement of design criteria.
3. Promote and assist with business improvement projects.
4. Prepare weekly and monthly compliance reports ensuring they are provided on time and to required quality.
5. Ensure that the mine planning group are providing the required level of service to mine operations and projects
6. Ensuring the completion and timing of daily, weekly and monthly plans and schedules, detailed pit, dump and other infrastructure design appropriate for construction.
7. Timely delivery of drilling and tie-up plans and other services required by the operations team.
8. Ensure designs are up to date and in advance of operations.
9. Provide reports on pre- and post-blast analysis, to identify improvement areas and cost reduction opportunities.
10. Ensure that environmental policies and strategies are incorporated into mining plans
11. Work with the Mining Operations and Medium/Long-term team to achieve production and cost targets in conjunction with the daily, weekly and monthly mining/drilling plans that correspond with the annual production target
12. Assist in the Budgeting process i.e. CAPEX and OPEX input data as and when required/ or as directed by the STP Coordinator.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements
1. G12 Certificate
2. Bachelor of Mining Engineering (or equivalent)
3. Should have a minimum 3 Years relevant experience in the mining industry
4. Experience in Mine Planning, Design and Production Engineering
5. Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia
6. Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
7. Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications
8. Prior use or an understanding of mine design software preferably Vulcan or Deswik
