JOB DETAILS:
The company invites applications from highly motivated and suitably qualified people eligible to work in Zambia to join the business under the above-mentioned role, whereby the successful candidate shall report to the Directors of the company.
The successful candidate must also be willing to learn about the meat retail industry as well as contribute to the growth and development of the organization.
The main duties and responsibilities of the above roles shall include the following listed below with regards to assisting in all butchery, meat processing and sales outlet operations:
• Assist in all accounting and administrative functions, including processing and verification of invoices, monitoring of incoming deliveries and outgoing orders, stock control duties, verification of sales figures, etc.
• Assist customers where necessary, either during their shopping in the butchery or dealing with any telephone and online orders.
• Support the long-term growth of the organization by engaging with the Directors on strategic planning and key decision-making processes.
• Efficiently operate till register to the expected company standards where necessary.
• Maintain the shop premises in a presentable condition and ensure full adherence to hygiene requirements.
• Undertake bank reconciliations and all correspondences with company accounts.
• Manage statutory duties, ensuring that PAYE, NAPSA, workers compensation, WHT, etc. are submitted and paid in a timely manner.
• Manage and control on a daily basis the inventory levels, issuing of stock for sale and checks on end-of-day inventory returns and comparisons with sales figures.
• Maintain filed records for the employees and make necessary appraisals/recommendations.
• Prepare monthly management reports to the Directors.
• Handling of company correspondences on behalf of the Directors.
• Supervision of staff members who report directly to the Shop Manager, whilst monitoring their performance and efficiency.
• Maintain accurate records of stock sales and compare those correctly against the daily cash sales, whilst maintaining consistency with general book-keeping records.
• Manage and control the sale of meat products on a daily basis, whilst maintaining a stable supply of meat products and ensuring consistent levels of quality and ensuring that customers’ demands is being managed efficiently
• Maintain an acceptable level of credit with selective clients and ensure that any monies owed are paid in a timely and flexible manner.
• Ensure that funds received from daily sales are correctly accounted for and deposited into the company accounts.
• Effectively manage the overall spending of company expenditures and ensure that all statutory bills are paid for (ZRA Taxes, Utility Bills, etc)
• Maintain acceptable level of general tidiness of facilities while ensuring adequate standard of quality
• Undertake decision-making process with respect to purchasing existing and new products and continuously seek to improve various aspects of the business within a limited budget and timescale
Other Duties and Responsibilities
• Estimate requirements and order meat supplies, negotiate with representatives from supply companies to determine order details.
• Receive, inspect, record, and store meat upon delivery, ensuring that quality and safety of meat products is maintained to a satisfactory standard.
• Efficiently supervise the process involved with wrapping, weighing, labelling and pricing of various meat products
• Maintain the preparation and placement of meat cuts and products in display counter, so that they appear attractive and catch the customers’ attention.
• Prepare special cuts of meat ordered by customers
• Supervise other butchers or meat cutters and schedule work activities, rotas and absences in consultation with management, ensuring butchery opening times are maintained and fully staffed.
• Facilitate training and coaching of butchery staff.
• Motivating and developing the team through setting objectives & strategies.
• Adding up and checking sales data, and occasionally collect money from customers.
• Develop pricing strategies, balancing company objectives and maintaining customer satisfaction;
• Co-ordinate the hiring, training, and performance evaluations of staff and supervising their daily activities;
• Evaluate the financial aspects of product development – such as budgets, expenditures, research and development appropriations, return-on-investment and profit-loss projections;
• Formulate, direct and coordinate marketing activities and policies to promote products and services, working with relevant advertisers and marketing promoters;
• Identify, develop, and evaluate marketing strategy, based on knowledge of establishment objectives, market characteristics, and cost and mark-up factors;
• Initiate market research studies and analyze findings;
• Utilising sales forecasting and strategic planning to ensure high sales volume and profitability of products, lines, or services, whilst analyzing business developments and monitoring market trends.
• Ensure that all food hygiene and safety standards are met and keep up to date with industry standards
• In consultation with senior management from time to time as agreed and appropriate consider introducing special offers, customer loyalty schemes, and similar.
• Inspect equipment regularly to ensure it is in good working order and safe to use. Ensure that butchery equipment is kept in good working order and oversee maintenance and repair where appropriate
• Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with your team and maintain them over time, encouraging mutual trust, respect, and cooperation. Assist and care for co-workers, customers, and suppliers.
• Develop, design, and create new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including artistic contributions, to further develop and improve the business.

• Understanding of legal and regulatory environment, including relevant health, safety, and hygiene requirements; updating the Health & Safety file each time new processes, products and regulations arise.
• Verbal and written communication skills
• Willingness to step into any retail sales position in the shop if the need arises
Task-Specific Skills
• Good knowledge and understanding of the selection, preparation, display packaging, and sale of meat products to domestic and commercial customers.
• Use of IT skills for making and receiving orders, calculating margins, stock figures, costings etc
• Business growth and increase in shareholder value.
Candidates wishing to be considered for the position must possess the following minimum qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma in Business Administration and/or Licentiate Diploma in Accounting from ZCAS or equivalent.
• Work experience in a retail business environment is essential (specifically in the meat retail industry with an accounting background would also be beneficial).
• Minimum five (5) experience of running a business with a successful and proven track record
• Good knowledge of Sage Pastel Accounting and Payroll Software.
• Full Grade 12 Certificate – verified by the Examination Council of Zambia (ECZ).
• Good computer literacy with intermediate knowledge of Office Software.
• Good customer service skills, with the ability to demonstrate a professional, friendly and courteous attitude towards customers and suppliers
• Good leadership, motivational, teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills,
• Good attention to detail and numerical skills.
• Fluent command of the English language.
• Reliable, honest and trustworthy, with good records supported by positive references.
• Police Clearance Certificate.
