JOB DETAILS:
Overview
• Under the direct supervision and guidance of the SRHR Specialist for a period of 3 months and the Adolescent specialist for the last 3 months, the intern will assist in the area of Sexual and Reproductive Health activities including the work on adolescent health and maternal health through collaborative work with UNFPA partners.
Tasks and responsibilities
1. Support the program specialists in the revision and monitoring of work plans and the drafting of monitoring reports.
2. To analyse and consolidate innovative SRH initiatives.
3. Support the preparation for program meetings, including mid-year and annual review meetings (e.g. preparation of concept notes, meeting agendas, draft communications, preparation of minutes, development of reports and oral presentations and power points).
4. Support the preparation of presentations in power point on issues related to ASRH, maternal mortality, CSE, and Midwifery.
5. Undertake scientific literature searches in scientific databases in the area of SRH and update relevant data
6. Support on other tasks as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Enrolled in a University degree, preferably in public health, social development, international relation, public administration, gender or development studies.
2. Fluency in English. Knowledge of local language would be an asset.
3. Ability to think and work logically and work precisely with attention to detail.
4. Ability to write clearly and concisely in a professional manner.
5. Good organisation skills.
6. Initiative, sound judgement and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members of different national and cultural backgrounds.
7. Ability to communicate effectively.
8. Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
Learning Elements:
Upon completion of the assignment, and depending on its duration, the Intern should be able to:
1. Increased understanding of the UN system.
2. Understand the UNFPA mandate and policies in Sexual and Reproductive Health and the situation of ASRH and maternal health in Zambia.
3. Learning the technical language and working procedures of an international development organisation.
4. Work as a team member in a multicultural setting.
Qualifying for an Internship:
Candidates for the internships are selected competitively and the profiles of the interns are matched with the needs of the organisation.
Applicants to the UNFPA internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
• Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
• Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
• Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme. Students must have written and spoken proficiency in English;
