JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose :
Responsible for both strategic and operational oversight of the conservancy, ensuring that the SCC is developed into a self- sustaining entity that integrates wildlife management, environmental conservation, tourism, livestock management and agricultural development for the benefit of the communities living in and around the SCC.
Report to:
As the leader of the Conservancy Management Unit working in close collaboration with the Operations Manager and Finance Manager, the SCC Conservancy Manager will report to the SCC Trust.
Location: Mwandi
Key Tasks
• Lead the Conservancy Management Unit
• Prepare agendas and discussion documents for the SCC Trust and EXCO meetings and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
• Ensure that communitiesare fully engaged in the conservancy and all stakeholders are informed involved in the development of the conservancy.
• Undertake capacity building training for Village Action Groups (VAG) and communities.
• Work in close collaboration with PMU members to develop annual work plans and budgets.
• Ensures the effective implementation of programme and project work plans.
• Collaborate closely with the Operations Manager to ensure implementation of conservancy activities such as wildlife conservation, livestock programs, security operations and other community development programs.
• Planning and implementing efficient operating procedures for the Conservancy.
• Ensuring effective and efficient utilization of financial and other resources of the organization
• Assist with project proposals and report writing for donors and the hosting of potential donors.
• Maintaining of conservancy assets and ensuring assets are serviced and kept in good working order.
• Supporting infrastructure development and maintenance
• Liaise with the conservancy partners.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Full Grade twelve (12) Certificate
• A Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, community development, agriculture, economics or equivalent.
• Experience in community development programmes a prerequisite
• Experience in farming, small business development, will be advantageous
• A minimum of eight years’ relevant experiencewith at least 5 years of senior management experience.

• Strong leadership skills that seek to empower and motivate staff and community groups.
• In-depth knowledge of and demonstratable commitment to wildlife conservation and natural resource management.
• Excellent inter-personal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels, including with local field project staff, local communities, government agencies, the not-for-profit sector, and the scientific community.
• Strong Project Management skills (Project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluating etc)
• The ability to think creatively and solve problems effectively.
• A strong drive for results with demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of team; to work with a diversity of stakeholders and communities; and to effectively coordinate, lead and motivate a multidisciplinary staff.
• The ability to work effectively in remote areas, in cross-cultural situations, with diverse economic and professional background.
• Excellent verbal and written communications (English and Lozi)
• Computer literacy especially in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power point and E-mail.
