JOB DETAILS:
Responsibilities:
Business/Functional Management
• Participate in defining the division’s strategy and lead project strategy development.
• Report to senior management on strategic project goals and performance.
• Execute multiple projects to support the broader business’s sustainability and meet industry and market requirements.
Financial, Commercial & Contracts Management
• Assist in site inspections and tender finalization in collaboration with the commercial/estimating team.
• Negotiate with clients on new work, current contracts, and variation orders.
• Contribute to the successful commercial close-out of projects.
Risk Management & Compliance (ESG Focus)
• Ensure adherence to the company’s social responsibility policy.
• Align with client ESG requirements and maintain project-wide compliance.
Stakeholder Management (Internal/External)
• Balance internal organizational needs with external stakeholder requirements for project success.
• Foster open communication with the Client’s Project Manager to strengthen relationships.
Operations & Project Management
• Plan and set up projects according to contractual and tender requirements, while adhering to industry standards.
• Ensure projects are executed within budget, scope, timelines, productivity, and safety and quality standards.
SHEQ Management
• Ensure full compliance with SHEQ requirements, policies, legislation, and systems at project sites.
Management Operating System & Reporting
• Prepare monthly project management reports covering safety, quality, community issues, forecasts, schedule, client relations, production, progress pictures, and labour matters.
Technical Management
• Ensure implementation of relevant quality and technical standards.
• Understand and implement internal and client policies related to technical matters.
Staff Management
• Organize staff structures to meet contract and site requirements.
• Manage direct reports, holding employees and subcontractors accountable for delivery.
Culture & Climate
• Establish a positive work environment for all project staff.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and safety.
• Manage client culture conflicts effectively to enhance relationships.
Qualifications:
• Degree in BSc Engineering or B-Tech in Mining/Metallurgical/Industrial or Civil Engineering.
• Project Management qualification (e.g., PMI or MDP) or a management qualification.
Experience:
• 8-10 years of experience as a Mine Overseer/Engineering Manager in a mining production environment.
• 10-15 years of relevant experience in complex tailings projects, including project management, construction, contract management, financial management, risk management, commercial and legal management, operational planning, safety, implementation, and HR management.
Skills, Qualities, and Abilities Requirements:
• Expert knowledge in tailings and production management.
• Excellent contract management skills.
• Strong planning skills and proficiency with planning tools.
• Persuasion and negotiation skills.
• Financial and budgeting control skills.
