About The Role
We are looking for a Project Geophysicist who will advance projects with good potential across any stage of the project lifecycle to proceed as efficiently and rapidly as possible; and Implement Rio Tinto policies on safety, environment, community relations and business integrity within the areas of project responsibility.
Reporting to Senior Project Geoscientist, you will be responsible for
• Planning and conducting Geophysical surveys per all HSEC and compliance policies by setting and monitoring objectives to ensure standards are met and anticipating and managing risks.
• Providing field support and contractor management support for geophysical survey acquisition.
• Assisting with potential field modelling and inversions.
• Apply exploration techniques and technologies to projects, including collect and compile and interpret geological data; collaborate with multi-function teams; fulfil technical milestones; monitor project progress to enable continual project prioritisation; and present results and recommendations to management, and guide project staff.
• Providing quality checking of various geophysical data, including airborne, ground and down-hole surveys.
• Progress a project through the pipeline towards discovery by using technical knowledge, data, innovative thinking and collaboration.
• Provide technical support to specific components of project work that may include early-stage generative through to order of magnitude and handover to product group.
• Supervise contactors and service providers through the tender process, the content of the contract and monitor the contract deliverables in accordance with RT standards.
• Manage exploration data and documents throughout the discovery pipeline, ensuring the most updated and complete version is stored inaccessible and secure databases and information systems.
• Undertake reporting on project activities, progress, issues and outcomes.
• Collaborate with and establish a network of peers working on other projects to share information, specialist knowledge, resources, materials and best practices across the region.
• Share and acquire best practices and resources by working with key stakeholders in other RTX regions and RT BU’s within the same commodity or discipline area.
• Continuously improve the technical aspects of project delivery by analysing performance information and making recommendations for improvement taking account of advances in technologies.
• Provide first-line supervision for project team staff such as graduate geologists, geotechnical officers, field support staff and contractors. Take responsibility for own and nominated staff performance in line with RT principles of Collaboration and Living the Values. Coach less experienced staff in the logistical and technical aspects of the project. Undertake liaison with local stakeholders and community members to develop and foster effective relationships to support projects at the local level. – Work with other operational support and logistics staff within the District to exchange information, share knowledge and coordinate/optimise support and logistics practices and resources across the District. Supervise junior operational support and logistics staff and contractors and develop and optimise the capability of the local workforce through recruitment, training, coaching, and performance management practices. Foster teamwork between operational support and logistics staff and ensure staff operate consistently with Rio Tinto values and expected behaviours.

What You Will Bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have
• Tertiary degree in geophysics or related field (with honours)
• Relevant trade certificate is desirable
• Knowledge of mineral deposits and exploration techniques.
• Minimum 3 years of post-graduate experience in working as a geophysicist in mineral exploration.
• Proficient in English and a local language
• Experience in Geosoft, Arc GIS or other modelling and GIS software is essential
• Full driving license with 4 x 4-wheel drive training advantageous
• Demonstrated ability to develop strong and productive working relationships with a wide range of people, including within a cross-cultural, multi-language environment.
• Understanding of and commitment to health, safety and environmental sustainability practices within the workplace
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements relevant to a field-based exploration environment
The incumbent will be expected to have the following competencies;
• Sound interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Supervisory skills to develop and coordinate staff undertaking varied tasks, with the ability to develop service-oriented teams and manage external contractors.
• Sound problem solving and troubleshooting skills able to be applied to a range of operational problems
• Ability to provide leadership, advice and guidance regarding health and safety matters at camp/site level.

Exploration Africa-Eurasia is building a strong technical team in Zambia to undertake the safe prospecting and technical evaluation of potential copper developments within the region. Initial prospecting activities will include geological mapping, drilling and resource modelling; complemented with the community and environmental characterisation work.
