JOB DETAILS:
General Summary
The University of North Carolina Global Projects Zambia (UNC-GPZ) cervical cancer research team conducts various studies in the intervention and treatment of cervical pre-cancer. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting assigned study procedures and adhere to procedural and international guidelines for research conduct for the purpose of achieving study objectives.
Areas Of Responsibility And Duties
Study Procedures
Together with the Project Manager, the Research Assistant will conduct assigned study procedures and other study activities including but not limited to the following:
• Recruiting participants
• Contacting and making appointments for interviews
• Obtaining informed consent
• Administering study questionnaire
• Submission of study data to the project manager in a timely manner
• Performing self-quality checks (QC) in a timely manner
Maintaining strict participant confidentiality and privacy at all times
Communication
• Communicate openly and honestly about study progress, issues, and/or problems that may arise.
• Work collegially as part of the study team and actively participate in problem solving
• Effectively collaborate with the community and district health centre staff as necessary
• Report all community misconceptions about research and address any concerns in an expeditious manner to the Project Manager
• Provide high quality service to participants by maintaining pleasant relationships at all times and attending to participants in a timely manner
• Be responsive to enquiries from participants
Other
• Be accountable and responsible for study resources and supplies, such as data collection forms, study equipment, and facilities to avoid stock-outs
• Ensuring a proper inventory system for study supplies and equipment is in place
• Perform any other duties/responsibilities necessary for the successful implementation and functioning of the study
Training
• Acquire and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the study protocol
• Regularly attend study meetings
• Complete all required study training, including routine Human Subject Protection and Good Clinical Practice
• Attend workshops, conferences and other meetings as requested
Special Skills/Competences
• Demonstrated experience in conducting research activities and/community activities
• Must have excellent, communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills
• Must be detail oriented and perform high quality work at all times
• Ability to organize and schedule multiple work related tasks efficiently
• Ability to work with deadlines and has a positive, sober and mature attitude as a team player
• Must be proficient in Microsoft programs
Education And Experience
• The job holder must have a minimum of a diploma in social work or any field related to public health; with 2-years relevant experience in research or community education; with work experience in a reputable NGO
