Job Description
Job title: Artisan, Boilermaker
Site: Kansanshi Mining Plc
Department: Smelter Engineering

Position reports to: Specialist, Condition Monitoring

Purpose
To install and maintain plant equipment chutes and pipes according to drawings as well as carry out all fabrication works and ensure that care and maintenance of all the welding equipment and organisation of right items in the mechanical section and carry out duties and procedures under the general guidance of the supervisor.

Key Responsibilities
This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
• Construct, assemble, maintain, and repair stationary steam boilers and boiler house auxiliaries.
• Align structures or plate sections to assemble boiler frame tanks or vats, following blueprints.
• Use of hand and power tools, plumb bobs, levels, wedges, or turnbuckles.
• Assist in testing assembled vessels.
• Direct cleaning of boilers and boiler furnaces.
• Inspect and repair boiler fittings, such as safety valves, regulators, automatic-control mechanisms, water columns, and auxiliary machines
• Lay out plate, sheet steel, or other heavy metal and locate and mark bending and cutting lines, using protractors, compasses, and drawing instruments or templates.
• Straighten or reshape bent pressure vessel plates or structure parts, using hammers, jacks, or torches.
• Bell, bead with power hammers, or weld pressure vessel tube ends to ensure leak-proof joints.
• Lay out plate, sheet steel or other heavy metal and locate and mark bending and cutting lines, using protractors, compasses, and drawing instruments or templates.
• Install manholes, hand holes, taps, tubes, valves, gauges, or feed-water connections in drums of water tube boilers, using hand tools.
• Study blueprints to determine locations, relationships, or dimensions of parts.
• Examine boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, or vats to locate defects, such as leaks, weak spots, or defective sections, so that they can be repaired.
• Bolt or arc weld pressure vessel structures and parts together, using wrenches or welding equipment.
• Fabricating Installation of cable racks/bends/supports.
• Use of grinder machine
• Demonstrate sound work ethics
• Checks all tools to make sure that they are in good working condition
• Can work independently but maintains the direction from the supervisor and section
• Preserves welding records in case welding temperature may change suddenly.
• Carry out routine housekeeping tasks to make sure that the work area is clean
• To undertake such other duties as may be determined by the Supervisor from time to time.

Qualifications
• Grade 12 School Certificate
• Craft Certificate in Metal Fabrication
• Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia

Experience
• A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience as a Boilermaker in a mining/plant environment
• Knowledge of work place safety including safe handling, welding, fabrication, racking and lifting procedures
