Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) is an outstanding institution with its own unique identity and a proud distinct history in Zambia. CEJ is a non-governmental organization established in 2010 whose mandate is to create platforms and processes that promote environmental justice for most vulnerable people in society. Anchored on this mandate, CEJ fosters access to quality and accurate information on environmental protection, extractive industries, sustainable energy, climate change, water security and agriculture with the aim of enhancing accountability for better decision making and sustainable development as well as a support safe and adaptive environment as basic fundamental human rights to having a better and prosperous livelihood.
SCOPE OF WORK:
This is a key role within Centre for Environment Justice’s programmes department. The EPD Coordinator will be responsible for planning and coordinating the hosting of Environmental Protection Dialogues (EPDs), fundraise for the EPD Strategy and lead its implementation, and shall act as Chairperson of the EPD.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key duties and responsibilities of the EPD Coordinator shall be as follows:
1. Planning and coordinating the hosting of the Environmental Protection Dialogue (EPD), and side events; Traditional Leaders Caucus (TLC) and Civil Society Caucus (CSC).
• Update, maintain and manage delegate list for the EPDs, TLCs and CSCs.
• Develop concept note and program/agenda for hosting the EPDs every October in Zambia.
• Identify and engage strategic institutions as potential EPD convening partners to provide both financial and technical support.
• Act as Chairperson of the Environmental Protection Dialogue and lead discussions with government and stakeholders.
• In consultation with Head of Programmes and Executive Director, identify strategic partners/individuals to attend and speak at the EPDs and its side events.
• Document key annual resolutions and develop Call to Action paper for the Environmental Protection Dialogue (EPD), Traditional Leaders Caucus (TLC), and Civil Society Caucus (CSC).
2. Fundraising for the EPD Strategy
• Identify and develop sustainable relationships/partnerships with key funders and cooperating partners.
• Develop annual work plan to engage strategic institutions such as; corporating partners, private companies, local and international organisations, foundations, Donor agencies etc. to partner with CEJ in implementing the EPD resolutions.
3. Programming and implementation of the EPD Strategy
• Lead the formation of a CSO consortium to collaborate with CEJ in implementing the EPD Strategy.
• Identify activities/resolutions from the EPD Strategy to be implemented annually with support from EPD Partners.
• With support from the Head of Research, write and publish at least two (2) research papers annually with focus on key issues in the EPD Strategy.
• With support from Head of Programmes, write and publish at least one (1) thoughtful and constructive article quarterly with focus on key issues in the EPD Strategy.
4. Reporting and Information Sharing on the EPD Strategy
• Input the EPD activity successes in the organisation annual report.
• Prepare quarterly and annual reports on the EPD strategy and implementation framework.
• Ensure that project activity, quarterly and annual reports are written and submitted to Head of programmes, finance and administration, Executive director and partners.
MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Preferably a master’s degree in environmental and Natural Resources Management, Climate Change, Development studies, Economics or related field from a recognised institution.
2. Training in project management and Monitoring and Evaluation is an advantage.
3. Computer literacy-proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Web conferencing applications.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
• At least five (5) years’ experience designing and or implementing development programmes particularly those related to environmental protection, natural resources, land use and climate change;
• Proven experience in resource mobilisation through donor engagement and developing bankable proposals;
• Prior experience of working in Civil society or non-governmental organisations.
• Demonstrated track record and experience in writing articles, reports and publications.
• Demonstrated experience in fundraising, and organising mini and large meetings, events and conferences.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting dialogue with senior level government partners and other stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and community involvement in environmental sustainability agenda.
• Demonstrate understanding and knowledge environmental institutional, regulatory and policy frameworks.
• Candidate must not have criminal record.

• Treats all people fairly without favoritism.
OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS:
• Able to engage with other stakeholders and government officials.
• Commitment to represent and promote CEJ vision and mandate.
• Must be able to manage and prioritise multiple tasks.
• Ready for frequent travels to the project sites.
