JOB DETAILS:
Community Climate Solutions Background: Community Climate Solutions is a start-up focused on developing holistic and trusted carbon offset projects that benefit both the climate as well as rural subsistence farmers. Headquartered in Zug and Lusaka, we have a team of over 30 people and are growing rapidly, with the majority of staff permanently residing in and serving over 100,000 farmers in Zambia.
Our carbon capture model is to empower rural subsistence farmers to reduce and remove carbon emissions from their own agricultural land and its surroundings. Our interventions are centered on:
• Reducing uncontrolled bushfires
• Restoring the Miombo ecosystem
These activities increase carbon storage, which we monetize on behalf of the farmers using the voluntary carbon market. Executed with our social mindset and mission, this allows us to multiply the farmers’ income and drastically reduce severe poverty.
Our differentiating factors:
• Focusing on direct household payment, with farmers getting paid for the amount of carbon they remove on their own fields and surrounding areas, enabling them to become self-motivated eCO2preneurs.
• Our projects are embedded in an existing and expanding ecosystem comprising vocational education facilities, a microfinance institution, and an affordable housing provider, which ensure community payouts are multiplied and invested for generations.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain an inventory of participating beneficiaries, mapping individual homesteads to implement household payouts based on intervention performance across all 5 zones and any additional areas added to the project in Lusaka Province.
• Assist the SCO in preparing the annual budgets and work plans, particularly for intervention planning. This includes coordinating closely with CTF to plan cattle grazing migration routes and organizing meetings with affected head persons in the areas.
• Support the SCO in ensuring that all research activities are well planned, executed, and reported weekly.
• Coordinate monitoring, data collection, skills development, technical support, and mobilization of community-based entities. Engage zone committees and village leaders in all project activities with full consultation from local stakeholders in each area.
• In collaboration with the Community Facilitator, develop user group information to ensure efficient and effective producer groups, coaching them to develop detailed work plans, entrepreneurial marketing plans, and quarterly update meetings.
• Facilitate training for both farmers and lead farmers in farming, business skills, and record-keeping to ensure food security, while coordinating such efforts with local camp officers under the Ministry of Agriculture.
• Work closely with the Community Facilitator to implement and locally adapt fire management tools at the village and household level, as mandated in the project document design.
• Maintain close collaboration with existing and new partners within the operational area to implement programs.
• Represent the CEO with important stakeholders and at high-level meetings as needed.
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Requirements:
• Grade 12 certificate
• Degree in Agriculture, Community Development, Social Sciences, or a related field
• 5 years’ experience in a related field
• MUST BE READY TO RIDE A MOTORBIKE (or willing to learn)
• Experience in climate-smart agriculture program implementation
• Strong community engagement skills
• Basic computer skills in MS Office applications
• Adaptability and willingness to work in a rural setup
