School of Public Health
The University of Zambia, School of Public Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health will be Conducting a Formative Assessment of HIV, gender-based violence, and sexual and reproductive health status among adolescent girls and young women in Zambia. The aim of the study is to collect baseline HIV, GBV, and sexual and reproductive health data at the district level to inform the design of interventions targeting AGYW aged 10-24 years in 20 selected districts of Zambia.
The school now seeks applications from eligible and AVAILABLE Zambians to participant in the formative assessment.
Quantitative Research Assistants - (60 Positions)
Job Scope:
The University of Zambia, School of Public Health (UNZA/SOPH) seeks to recruit 60 self-motivated Research Assistants who can take a proactive and leading role in the ethical collection and proper management of sexual and reproductive health, GBV and education related data for a period of one month (for 30 days) in selected 20 districts. In consultation with the Supervisor, Statistician and research team, the data collectors will collect data from adolescents and young people, conduct household visits, recruit eligible participants and administer informant consent. The Research Assistants will also conduct interviews, properly store collected data, ensure that good data quality is achieved and complete data collection in a timely manner.
Reports to: The Supervisor and team lead
Required Qualifications/Experience:
• Minimum of Diploma in any program, preferably health and social sciences;
• Certificate in Protection of Human Research Participants will be an added advantage
• Undergraduate degree in any field, health, and social sciences will be added advantage
• Certificate in HIV Voluntary Counseling and Testing
• Experience in working with adolescents and young people on sexual and reproductive health services is an added advantage
• Ability to speak and read at least one local language (Silozi, Chitonga, Ichibemba, Chinyanja, Lunda, Luvale, and Kikaonde)
• Fluent in written and spoken English
• Must be a resident of the district and familiar with the local community
• At least one year experience in data collection and data management
• MUST display the ability to create rapport with children and adolescents.
• Must have good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
• Proficiency in using a computer or hand-held device such as tablets
• Ready to work in some hard-to-reach data collection sites
Key Responsibilities:
• Collect baseline HIV, GBV, and sexual and reproductive health data at the district level among adolescent aged 10-24 years
• Interview (read and speak) in English and the local language in the province
• Recruit study participants for interviews
• Ensure confidentiality of collected data is maintained throughout the research process.
• Must adhere to all data collection Standard Operating Procedures
• Maintain high professional standards at all times.

Kabwe, Chisamba, Mkushi, Chililabombwe, Ndola, Kalulushi, Petauke, Nyimba, Mwense, Chembe, Chongwe, Chinsali, Mungwi, Kasama, Mwinilunga, Sinazongwe, Mazabuka, Kalomo, Limulunga, Mongu (Within Zambia).
