We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated candidate for the position of Assistant Research Associate to be based in Lusaka Zambia. This is a nationally recruited position and is open to all Zambians with excellent academic records and experience. This position will support on-going research activities in our Research and Development department in Zambia. The incumbent will assist through the application of research techniques according to the R&D mandate as well as by supervising the duties of support personnel. They will coordinate the breeding processes and work with the breeders for the application of holistic breeding framework in the department.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage the establishment of nurseries and trials from the breeder
• Lead on-farm and on-station trialing
• Collect data from on-farm and on-station trials as per agreed protocols
• Prepare data for analysis and conduct descriptive analysis.
• Run more complex data analysis with breeder
• Assist Afriseed management in any other matters as and when required

Qualifications and Experience
• At least an MSc in Agricultural Science with a strong focus on Plant breeding /Agronomy
• Familiarity with conventional plant breeding methods is a must
• At least 5 years experience in a plant breeding environment (Experience in Supervising on-farm and on-station trials would be an advantage)
• Previous work experience at a national or international research centre would be an added advantage
• Experience in collating and analysing on-farm and on-station data trials
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
• The selected candidate must be able to demonstrate the following competencies: Interpersonal skills, Critical thinking, Problem solving & Decision making and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
