JOB DETAILS:
1. Primary Purpose Of The Job:
To ensure the continuous improvement of process and product quality by providing technical advice and facilitating problem solving and decision making in order to drive quality assurance in the value chain.

2. Key Result Areas And Outcomes:
Promote quality excellence in the value chain:
• Communicate process and product quality information
• Provide leadership to ensure commitment to product quality
• Apply the quality system in the workplace
Provide technical advice:
• Assess technical requirements
• Support implementation of recommendations
• Optimise availability of measuring equipment and test samples
Facilitate team problem solving and decision making:
• Apply problem solving and decision making techniques and principles
• Interacts with production management, QC manager, lab technicians and operations teams to ensure appropriate people are involved in problem solving sessions.
• Verifies that corrective action has been implemented and that the problem has been resolved
Work in Teams
• Communicate effectively in the work place
• Contribute to self and team development
Auditing
• Reviews regularly the auditing schedule to identify the monthly, quarterly or ad hoc quality audits required.
• Interacts with lab technicians, production and operational teams to obtain required information for quality audit.
• Completes the audit reports and provides feedback to the QC manager and findings at feedback meetings.
Maintenance
• Carry out required maintenance as per instrumentation maintenance schedule.
• Apply problem-solving techniques to determine equipment maintenance problems or issues.
• Requests specialist assistance where appropriate
• Verifies that maintenance has been carried out correctly and that equipment is functioning properly.
Coaching
• Coaching of core lab and production staff
• Reviews’ training needs analysis and quality audits to identify teams and individuals requiring coaching.
• Completes CAP assessments for quality as required.
• Interacts with lab technicians, production and operational teams on an ongoing basis to identify coaching needs.
• On an ongoing or ad hoc basis coaches lab technicians and production teams on quality and quality analysis.

Process Control
• Quality information reports and trends generated
• Laboratory records for specialized process and product analysis
• Availability of SOPs and updated lab manuals
• Inter-Lab Error Control Survey
• Reference Sample Management
Lab Equipment
• Equipment maintenance schedules developed and adhered to
• Equipment Reliability Index
• Updated maintenance and calibration records
• Adherence to manualised calibration frequencies
Cost Control
• Lab consumables
• Overtime management
Human Resources
• Formative assessments on quality analyses for Lab Technicians and Process Operators

4. Decision Making Powers And Authorities:
This person is authorised to:
• Stop any brewing and Utilities process which does not conform to SABMiller Standards
• Translate any authorized process change
• Train and coach brewing team members where the need arises.

5. Competency Requirements:
Education:
• Min – Bachelor of Science in Food Technology or equivalent
• Ideal – Bachelor of Science in Food Technology with IBD Diploma
Legal:
• None
Training:
• Min – 2-3 months on the job training
• Ideal – 3-6 months on the job training
Experience:
• 1-2 years as a Laboratory Technician, Qualified Advanced Taster
