JOB DETAILS:
GH-TAMS is currently recruiting for an upcoming consultancy assignment for USAID Zambia focusing on vaccine management as part of USAID’s G-VAX initiative. Assignment length will be six-months beginning late February. Work location will be in Zambia (possibly embedded in the MOH), with level of effort at 130 days.
Background
Zambia is on a short list of priority countries for the Initiative for Global Vaccine Access (Global VAX), specifically as an initial impact ‘vanguard’ country. Global Vax is driven by the goal of reaching 70% global vaccination coverage and delivering 800 million additional vaccine doses by September 2022.
During Q4 of 2021, Zambia’s vaccination rate ranked in the bottom two in the Southern Africa Region. A national vaccination campaign was launched in alignment with World AIDS Day and has shown significant success. The MoH reached its goal of administering two million doses by the end of 2021, and the vaccination rate among people aged 18 and over is 16 percent as of January 10. Zambia enjoys significant political commitment around COVID-19 response in general and vaccination in particular.
Together with partners, USAID is supporting countries with the readiness, rollout introduction, and at scale use of COVID-19 vaccines through a multi-pronged effort, including an Emergency Operations Center Approach. Immunization technical assistance is needed to support comprehensive country programs to prepare for and administer C-19 vaccines with the goal of ensuring systematic uptake and access among all eligible populations, address vaccine hesitancy, and combat mis- and disinformation. Immunization system strengthening, vaccine tracking, logistics use and triangulation of data from a variety of sources, in coordination with in-country implementing partners also play an important role in the COVID-19 response.
Role and Responsibilities
• Support national vaccination campaign while embedded in the Ministry of Health with a focus on Pfizer and management of five vaccines.
• Work directly with the Ministry of Health to streamline and quicken the administration of Pfizer vaccines in particular.
• Advise on the management of five vaccines in-country, vaccines which have different requirements for storage, distribution, and administration and different demand-generation related needs.
Qualifications
• Advanced degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, International Development, Medicine or related field.
• At least seven years in public health, preferably with experience in donor-funded activities
• Expertise in the vaccine storage, distribution, and administration (Pfizer vaccine exp. preferred)
• Experience with COVID-19 response
