Job Purpose
• The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision to the Company by working with the Board of Directors and the senior management team to establish, implement and over-see the goals, strategies, plans and policies of the Company, subject to the direction and oversight of the Board of Directors.
• The CEO will advance and build on the vision, mission, and commercial development of Zambia Gold Company Limited (ZGCL). In addition, the CEO will be responsible for leading the Management and bring a combination of an understanding of mining, people management and commercial management experience.
Key Result Areas And Principal Accountabilities
Strategy Implementation
• Work with the ZGCL Board to develop the Company strategy.
• Provide policy options for consideration by the Board of Directors.
• Creating, communicating, and implementing the organization’s vision, mission, and overall direction.
• Make high-level decisions on policy and strategy.
• Develop the company’s culture and overall company vision.
• Implement, improve, and enforce policies and procedures that will increase the financial and operational effectiveness of the company.
Operations
• Ensure the development, implementation and review of operational policies and guidelines to enhance the operations performance of the Company.
• Provides leadership to ensure that implementation and achievement of operational targets is achieved within estimated costs.
• Provide leadership to ensure that achievements against plans are undertaken at all levels of the organization.
• Provide leadership in the development and implementation of SHEQ policies and guidelines.
• Monitor production output and costs, and adjust processes and resources to minimise costs.
Finance & Audit
• Oversee prudent utilization of finances, assets and other resources to ensure accountability, cost effective operations and sustainability of the Company.
• Provide leadership in the planning and implementation of the budgets.
• Provide leadership in planning, designing and implementation of financial policies focusing on the company’s growth, profitability and sustainability.
• Manage relations with Auditors.
Risk, Compliance, and Corporate Governance
• Oversee the company risk and compliance management.
• Ensure adherence to good corporate governance programs for the company.
• Ensure compliance with legal requirements governing the mining sector in Zambia.
• Ensure that effective systems are in place to identify and manage business risks and that such risks are within acceptable levels.
• Provides leadership to ensure that Board members are kept abreast of current issues, opportunities, and potential risks.
Stakeholders Management
• Oversees the implementation of the Stakeholder Engagement Strategy and Communication.
• Provides leadership to ensure an effective working relationship with all stakeholders in order to achieve the company objectives.
• Oversees the enhancement of shareholder asset value.
People Managementand Leadership
• Provide leadership in ensuring that strategies implemented to manage human capital needs of ZGCL are backed by policies and procedures that support the strategic direction of the Company.
• Provide leadership in ensuring the Company adopts human capital strategies that uphold industry best practices.
• Lead and mentor staff supporting the vision, mission, and goals of the Company.
• Provide leadership in ensuring the Company implements a watertight performance management system.
Qualifications and experience:
1. Professional Qualifications
• Grade 12 Certificate – Five (5) ‘O’ Levels with credit or better, including Mathematics and English
• Bachelor of Science in Mining or related qualification
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent
• Master’s Degree
• Registered with EIZ or other relevant professional bodies.
2. Minimum Relevant Job Experience
• Proven written and oral skills and ability to distil and communicate complex matters at the highest levels.
• A minimum of 10 years’ professional experience in mining of which at least 5 years should be at senior management level and at least 5 years in opencast/ underground mining.
• Demonstrable experience in managing a diversified professional team.
• Experienced leader in managing Safety, Health and Environmental aspects with the ability to create a positive culture.
3. Skill Specifications:
• Able to handle work with a great sense of professionalism.
• Possesses good organizational skills.
• Maintain a professional approach to duties and responsibilities with the capability of making timely, rational decisions and an ability to meet deadlines.
• Act with honesty and integrity in all areas: maintain confidentiality in dealings with subordinates, clients and customers.
• Demonstrate accuracy, time management and organizational skills.
• Maintain a professional work ethic through effective, honest communication with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
• Commitment to reach or exceed production, operational and safety goals.
• Work effectively in a team environment, supporting other team members when needed.
• The ability and drive to manage production work group in a technically challenging and geographically remote environment.
• Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
