Data Manager
Overview

UNC-Global Projects Zambia, LLC is an independent, local, non-governmental health organization established in Zambia in 2015. We conduct clinical and public health research among women and newborns aimed to improve the lives of families in Zambia.
The Data Manager will join an experienced and creative team to build and maintain strong systems for data collection, quality control, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting for our various research programmes. The incumbent will create, refine, implement, and oversee standard procedures for comprehensive data collection and management.
Skills & Competences
We are looking for someone who thinks critically and can work independently; has excellent attention to detail, with great problem-solving skills. This person should have excellent written and oral communication skills as stakeholder engagement will be one of the key responsibilities. They should have proven team leadership skills in diverse settings and must be eager, confident, and adaptable.

Major Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to the following:
• Collaborate with Principal Investigators and Programme Heads to ensure projects’ data management needs are understood and met.
• Provide support to new projects in strategically building data systems that meet diverse program needs, including designing and programming data collection tools, formulating data management plans, and drafting standard operating procedures within start-up timelines and
budgetary requirements.
• Design quality assurance systems, manage data quality control and cleaning processes, produce study monitoring and data quality reports, and generate datasets for analysis
• Provide continuous oversight of an organized, accurate and efficient flow of data, maintaining an adequate data trail to monitor and review these processes.
• Develop and maintain well-documented program code to conduct quality assurance activities and identify data inconsistencies for project databases and review data management findings and trends with appropriate personnel (data analysts, clinicians, program managers, clinical managers).
• Assist with staff hiring, organize and lead trainings, and provide mentorship for the data team and other unit staff on data systems and technical skills.
• Be responsible for the safe storage and archival of electronic data for assigned projects.
• Actively explore new avenues to keep UNC-GPZ up to date with current global trends in data management practices.
• Have administrative and managerial responsibility in terms of planning, daily operations, and forecasting of unit needs.
• Promote team building, work collegially, and foster a respectful environment for all teammates.
• Participates pro-actively during multi-disciplinary meetings

Qualifications and Experience
Required:

• Bachelor of Science in Mathematics or Computer related subject; Bachelor of Science in CS/Informatics/Data related field with 5 years’ work experience, OR Master of Science in CS/Informatics/Data related field with 3 years’ experience managing large databases, preferably in the health field
• Must be highly proficient in STATA programming, ideally with some proficiency also in SAS or R
• Highly proficient in SQL and other database software such as PostgreSQL, CouchDB, etc
• Must have a thorough understanding of computer systems
• Experience designing data systems and working knowledge of data analysis
• Demonstrable experience generating high-quality monitoring, evaluation, and progress reports
• Be very familiar with the Zambian Data and Cyber laws
