iDE Zambia is a branch of the larger International Development Enterprises structure that employs market-based approaches and the power of entrepreneurship to create competitive, resilient and inclusive income and livelihood opportunities for poor rural households in the Agriculture and WASH subsectors. iDE Zambia has been contracted by the World Food Programme (Wfp) to be an implementing partner on the ‘Support for Scaling Up Nutrition Phase II – SUN II for the First 1,000 Most Critical Days program II (MCDP II)’. The assignment contributes to the following MCDP II results:
CSP Outcome 1 – Vulnerable people in Zambia have improved nutritional status in line with national targets by 2024
– Output 1 – Smallholder farmers benefit from enhanced financial services to increase their income and resilience.
– Output 2: Targeted communities benefit from increased access to nutrition products through strengthened private sector value chains for nutritious foods.
CSP Outcome 2 – Smallholder farmers in Zambia, especially women, have increased access to markets, enhanced resilience to climate shocks and diversified livelihoods by 2030
– Output 1. Smallholder farmers benefit from knowledge and technology in postharvest management to enhance their resilience to shocks and increase their incomes.
To achieve the stated results iDE Zambia will coordinate and support implementation of the following activities at district level working under a multi sectoral team approach:
1. Economic empowerment for women of reproductive age (WRA) with a focus on promoting aligned and productive Village Savings and Lending Associations (VSLA) and access to financial education, services and products;
2. Support the integration of Nutrition SBCC in VSLA and it roll out;
3. Food safety and preservation to increase availability, access, quality and safety of nutritious foods at household level;
4. Support private sector engagement to promote local and community based nutritious food development, processing and marketing;

Project Description: Scaling Up Nutrition Phase II
Job Title: District Coordinator
Location: iDE Zambia – Western Province – Kalabo District
Position reports to: Project Manager – Sun II
Job Purpose Summary
The District Coordinator will support implementation of the following planned interventions (including ensuring prudent use and application of allocated resources) by the line Ministries of Community Development as well as Agriculture to deliver targeted results and impact following a multi sectoral team approach at district level:
1. Economic empowerment for women of reproductive age (WRA) with a focus on promoting aligned and productive Village Savings and Lending Associations (VSLA) and access to financial education, services and products;
2. Support the integration of Nutrition SBCC in VSLA and it roll out;
3. Food safety and preservation including post-harvest management to increase availability, access, quality and safety of nutritious foods at household level;
4. Support private sector engagement to promote local and community based nutritious food development, processing and marketing.
Key responsibilities:
R 1. Promote economic empowerment for women of reproductive age –
1. Facilitate training of district staff, Community Development Facilitators (CDF), on Village Savings and Lending Associations (VSLA).
2. Facilitate and coordinate the training of selected animators/volunteers on Village Savings and Lending Associations (VSLA) and other savings group models.
3. Drive and oversee sensitization of SUN communities on Savings Groups including group formation and training women of reproductive age (WRA) on VSLAs.
4. Integrate Nutrition SBCC into VSLA discussions and leveraging on opportunities to promote nutrition and health.
5. Link communities to financial services providers, including Micro Finance Institutions (MFI) and commercial banks.
6. Facilitate the delivery and provision of financial education to communities
Oversee, monitor and support savings associations/VSLA groups.
R 2. Increase availability, access, quality and safety of nutritious foods for households through food safety and preservation
1. Set up demonstrations sites as community centres of excellence to showcase appropriate utilization of Post-Harvest (PH) technology.
2. Provide on spot training to smallholders and provide complementary extension support – Facilitating training of Ministry of Agriculture district staff and camp extension in PHM and in food processing, preservation and utilization.
3. Facilitate and oversee roll out of training to lead farmers and registered SUN TA households on PHM (including food preservation and utilisation).
4. Link SUN Agri-households to distributors of post-harvest management supplies, including PICS Support/facilitate the establishment and development of local supply chains for post-harvest management technologies.
5. Facilitate linkages through last mile Agro dealers and sales promotion.
R 3. Support private sector engagement to promote local and community based nutritious food development, processing and marketing – Orienting DNCC in SBN and private sector engagement
1. Support DNCC to facilitate meetings/activities with private sector.
2. Supporting private sector actor’s participation in promoting community based nutritious foods development, processing and marketing; private sector actors engaged and producing locally available nutritious foods.
R 4. Work planning, results measurement and reporting
1. Prepare district monthly work plans and budgets consistent with set/expected outputs and milestones and submit to the Provincial Coordinator and Project manager.
2. Coordination and managing of relations with other project implementing partners for synergies in project delivery across results areas – Collecting required performance and progress data on project participants.
3. Submission of monthly narrative report and weekly verbal update.
R 5. Administration – Submit monthly motor bike reports and completed time sheets
1. Submit monthly expense reports.
2. Promote and positively reinforce the WFP and iDE Zambia brands at local level.
3. Good usage of iDE asserts and fuel.
Qualifications, experience and skills;
1. Degree in agriculture, nutrition, or natural resource management.
2. At least two years’ experience working in an agricultural extension, Community mobilization or nutrition and health outreach capacity.
3. Experience working in a multi-disciplinary setting will be added advantage.
4. An understanding and appreciation of the role that the private sector can play in providing agriculture and nutrition goods and services including markets to smallholder farmers.
5. A self-starter who can work with minimal supervision, adhering to deadlines and used to meeting targets.
6. Valid Motor bike riders’ license.
7. IT literate with some proficiency in MS Word.
