JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose
The Field Officer is responsible for overseeing the aggregation of gold from small-scale and artisanal miners in the field. The role involves liaising with miners, ensuring gold quality, maintaining accurate records, and adhering to company protocols for safe and efficient gold collection. The Field Officer is critical to ensuring that gold aggregation operations are conducted transparently, efficiently, and in compliance with legal and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Gold Aggregation & Collection:
• Oversee the collection and aggregation of gold from small-scale and artisanal miners in various mining locations.
• Ensure that the gold received meets the company’s quality and purity standards.
• Coordinate with miners and local vendors to ensure timely and accurate delivery of gold to the aggregation points.
• Maintain a transparent process for gold weighing, measurement, and record-keeping to ensure accountability.
Quality Control & Compliance:
• Conduct quality inspections and tests (e.g., purity assessments) on gold collected from miners.
• Ensure that the gold aggregation process complies with company policies, legal regulations, and environmental standards.
• Implement and follow security protocols to safeguard the gold collected from theft, loss, or contamination.
• Collaborate with internal audit and compliance teams to address any risks or irregularities in gold aggregation operations.
Record-Keeping & Reporting:
• Maintain accurate records of all gold received, including quantities, sources, and quality assessments.
• Prepare and submit daily and weekly reports detailing gold aggregation activities, including any discrepancies or concerns.
• Ensure proper documentation is in place for each transaction, including receipts, invoices, and certificates of authenticity.
Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management:
• Build and maintain strong relationships with small-scale and artisanal miners, vendors, and local communities.
• Educate miners on best practices for gold extraction, handling, and delivery to improve the quality of gold produced.
• Ensure transparent and fair communication with miners about gold prices, aggregation procedures, and company policies.
Logistics & Coordination:
• Coordinate with the logistics team to ensure that gold is safely transported from the field to designated aggregation centers or company offices.
• Assist in planning and coordinating the movement of gold from remote mining sites to secure storage locations.
• Monitor the use of equipment and vehicles involved in the gold aggregation process to ensure their efficient and safe operation.
Qualifications and experience
• Grade 12 school certificate
• Diploma in a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related position.
• 3 years practical experience in a busy trading environment involving handing of cash or frequent transactions.
• Strong understanding of gold aggregation processes and sustainable mining practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with data management systems.
• Willingness to travel frequently to remote locations within Zambia.
Skill Specifications:
• Strong organizational and logistical skills to manage field operations effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with miners and vendors.
• Ability to conduct quality inspections and use gold purity testing equipment (e.g., XRF machines).
• Proficiency in record-keeping and reporting, with attention to detail.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
