In Gabon, the Nature Conservancy is working in support and collaboration to the country’s ambitions biodiversity conservation and climate mitigation agenda. TNC works across freshwater, ocean and terrestrial ecosystems to protect and sustainable manage critical habitats for species, ecosystems, and carbon stocks. TNC brings science and innovative tools and approaches to inform better decision-making, develops innovative financial mechanisms for long terms sustainability, cultivates strategic partnership and fosters the needs for inclusive, equitable conservation that benefits nature and people.
Your Position with TNC
The Gabon Program Coordinator provides program day-to-day management support to ensure the efficient and effective execution of the TNC Gabon program strategy, including coordination of our freshwater, ocean, and terrestrial ecosystems conservation work at a national scale. They will assist in ensuring conservation projects have a clear pathway for execution and timely delivery, by tracking launch and development through the project cycle, ensuring adequate resources are dedicated, deployed, and progress is monitored and evaluated. Reporting to the Gabon Deputy Director, the position will be based at the TNC office in Libreville Gabon. No employment visas or assistance is being offered with this position except for the local labor employment requirements.
Essential Functions
The Gabon Program Coordinator supports execution of TNC Gabon conservation agenda by managing and coordinating systems and processes to track and measure progress, improve effectiveness of the team’s work, build accountability of each team member, and facilitate more collaboration and communication within Gabon team, and between Gabon staff, partners, and other regional and global TNC experts. The Program Coordinator assists the Gabon Deputy Director and different Program Leads by maintaining new project records and tracking reporting requirements to donors and partners, and will support the development of project plans, budgets, metrics, schedules, and reports with input and buy-in from key stakeholders and team members. The Program Coordinator will organize internal meetings and trainings and ensure they are facilitated appropriately to achieve desired goals. They track agreed actions and tasks; develop documents, translations, presentations, and other materials; and coordinate events and consultancies with external partners. They support key coordinating functions that help staff and stakeholders work in an efficient and effective way, such as tracking project status in a project management software, maintaining a shared Box folder, tracking meeting commitments and minutes, and following up with partners to ensure work is proceeding as planned. They also support staff through activities such as collating and organizing data (financial, biological, etc.). The Program Coordinator will also help ensure that events are effectively planned, participants receive advance information, technical materials are prepared, and reports are completed in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications
• BA/BS and 5 years’ experience in natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience negotiating complex agreements.
• Excellent communication skills via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and French.
• Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers.
