JOB DETAILS:
Main Purpose
To provide litigation services to LTZM and monitor that the legal affairs affecting the LTZM are in compliance with LTZM policy, domestic and international Laws and regulations.

Responsibilities
• Prepares a draft service providers list (external counsel and suppliers) for the Legal Department annually and submits to the Legal Counsel
• Prepares a litigation section reports quarterly for consideration and action by the Legal Counsel
• Prepare a Legal Risk Register monthly for the Legal section for consideration and action by the Head Regulatory Legal Counsel
• Prepares and updates a Litigation Register monthly for consideration and action by the Head Regulatory Legal Counsel
• Identifies Legislation that affects the LTZM in compliance with Zambian Laws and International Standards.
• Regulatory reporting and submissions to respective regulatory authorities
• Research on the regulatory and legal framework in relation with the LTZM’s new and running products
• Prepares a legal bulletin Quarterly on various legal topics.
• Maintains the regulatory checklist and checks that each department is complying with the requisite obligations through scheduled and spot departmental audits
• Develops strategy with outside counsel in response to civil litigation, including negotiating settlement agreements where appropriate;
• Engages external counsel on a monthly basis to get progress reports on cases handed over and submit report to Head of Legal
• Researches on applicable laws arising from reports on potential litigation cases
• Liaises with the relevant Departments to gain further understanding of the claim or defence
• Prepares a draft opinion or report on LTZM’s prospects of success in the claim or defence for consideration by the Head Regulatory Legal Counsel
• Initiates legal proceedings or actions as approved and agreed;
• Prepares instructions letters to external counsel
• Liaises with external counsel as appropriate within the parameter of instructions given by the Head of Legal
• Attend to Litigation Proceedings before all courts of competent jurisdiction
• Review and sign suspension letter before dispatch by finance team to customers
• Liaises with the relevant Departments on customers monthly suspension list and authorize for suspension
• Refer matters received for debt collection to Legal Counsel for determination of external counsel engagements
• Initiates and attend to legal proceedings or actions as approved for debt collection

Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in law
• Advocate of the High Court of Zambia
• Practicing license of admission to the Zambian Bar
• Information and Communication Technology industry
• Must have assumed a similar corporate role
• Knowledge of Laws of Zambia
• Knowledge of Zambia Companies Act
• Knowledge of Zambia Information and Communications Technology Act
• Knowledge of Litigation
