Organizational Setting
• The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.
• The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
The position is located in the FAO Representation in Lusaka, Zambia.
• FAO in collaboration with the research department of the Ministry of Agriculture [ZARI] and the University of Zambia is implementing a 4-year project, titled, “Soil mapping for resilient agrifood systems in Central America and sub-Saharan Africa” (SoilFER). The project is funded by the government of the United States of America, and has 5 beneficiary countries [ie. Zambia, Kenya, Ghana, Honduras and Guatemala]. Therefore, the successful candidate will provide driving services to FAO national and International staff, as well as any other authorized personnel, over the 4-year period, on an annually renewed and performance-based contract.
Reporting Lines
• Under the overall supervision of the FAO Country Representative and the Assistant FAOR-Admin in Zambia, and the direct supervision of the National Project Coordinator, the incumbent will provide reliable and safe driving services, by facilitating movement of authorized personnel during the course of project implementation. Furthermore, the Project Driver will need to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, professionalism, and a general ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds, under the SoilFER project.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The incumbent provides driving services to FAO National Staff, International Staff on mission, as well as any other authorized personnel.
• Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services by a) driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents, procurement items, etc and b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.
• Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
• Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
• Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
• Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.
• Any other duties as required by Supervisor.
Candidates Will Be Assessed Against The Following
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 Certificate, its equivalent or better.
• Valid driver’s license
• Minimum 5 years’ work experience as a driver
• Safe driving record
• Working knowledge of English
• A Zambian national
