The key purpose of this role is to prevention of illness and promotion of health for the workers so as to reduce the loss of man hours due to ill health, there by maximizing productivity.
Key outputs and responsibilities:
Safety, health and workplace assessments
• Hazards associated with various workplaces in the Factory identified
• Toxicological, epidemiological, clinical, and exposure assessments done and data on these assessments is available
• Occupational medicine practice (On Site Treatment For Employees, Spouses and medical surveillance) Prevention, diagnosis and treatment of injury and illness is done on site
• Referrals for more complicated cases and follow ups with local hospitals • Biological monitoring done as per schedule for all employees exposed to hazardous workplace conditions.
• A medical surveillance plan is prepared annually and Medical examinations done for all food handlers
• Baseline/pre-placement and exit medical examinations are done as required Medical retirement for employees with ill health facilitated and Home based care provided for the chronically sick
Occupational hygiene surveys
• Environmental stressors which might cause ill health, disease, impaired health and wellbeing are identified and evaluated.
• Hygiene surveys are conducted by qualified industrial hygienists as per schedule in place
• Control measures are put in place for conditions that may cause ill health and disease, as identified from hygiene surveys
Occupational health and safety programme implementation
• Programmes in place for the identification, evaluation, monitoring and control of workplace health hazards and risks
• All HIV/AIDS programs spearheaded and support of peer educators attained. Administration of ARV’s monitored and controlled.
• Review of OHS programmes done annually as part of continuous improvement
Administration and Record Keeping
• Legal requirements applicable to occupational health complied with.
• Confidential medical information and records secured to enhance confidentiality.
• Data/statistics provided to management for planning purposes.
• Drug stocks maintained and controlled. • Communication of occupational health and safety information to relevant internal and external contacts
Education/Qualification
• Min: Diploma in Clinical Medicine, Counselling Qualification and practicing license
Training
• Occupational Health and Safety
Experience:
• 5 Years 4.4 PERSONAL CHAR
