JOB DETAILS:

Musika is an independent Zambian non-profit company supported by the Swedish Embassy in Lusaka to stimulate and support private sector investment in the smallholder and rural markets. Musika’s operations are national in scope and stretch across the agricultural industry, working primarily with those corporate entities in the sector that are committed to engaging the rural poor as their clients, suppliers and consumers. Musika provides its clients with high quality, commercially focused technical advice and business support to catalyse and strengthen mutually beneficial commercial relationships between the corporate and smallholder markets. Musika focuses on supporting the development of commercial relationships in which there is some form of ‘value addition’ to the transaction that give not only the opportunity but also the technical knowledge and confidence to smallholder farmers to invest in and improve their farming businesses. Musika’s approach to reducing poverty and creating wealth in rural Zambia involves stimulating the development of a supportive market environment that provides long term and sustainable opportunities for farmers to invest in their own production and to use the markets to graduate out of poverty.

In order to deliver on its’ mandate, Musika seeks to employ suitably qualified individuals for the position of; PROGRAM ADVISOR- ENVIRONMENT

REPORTING TO: HEAD KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

Responsibilities:

1. Lead the promotion and strengthening of the individual interventions and ultimately all identified value chains in contributing to Musika’s ambition of environmental stewardship and climate change resilience, and biodiversity.
2. Provide evidence-based guidance and thought leadership for integration of environment and climate in the design of project ideas, concept notes and proposals.
3. To prepare and coordinate timely and comprehensive environment and climate change reports, assessments and feedback as required by the Knowledge Management Team.
4. To manage an information system that tracks progress relating to Musika’s environment and climate change indicators as specified by the Knowledge Management Team
5. Develop and review relevant environment and climate change indicators for inclusion in the overall results framework.
6. Design, develop and promote learning tools and knowledge products for Musika staff, consultants, and partners to strengthen activities and align with sector evidence and best practices.
7. Collaborate with Technical and KM Team on the development of proposals and concept notes for a variety of donors, including carrying-out initial environmental analysis, provide guidance on concept design and writing/editing sections of concept notes/proposals when required.
8. Based on environment strategy develop an implementation plan that identifies risks, opportunities and entry points for integrating environment and climate change in all value chains.
9. To take lead and factor in environmental stewardship, climate change, adaptation and mitigation including biodiversity whenever applicable, during the intervention design stage.
10. To lead in the ideation and innovation, opportunity identification and intervention generation process for integrating environment, climate change and biodiversity in the value chains.

Qualifications
1. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in environmental or climate studies, or similar relevant field of study
2. Four (4) years of professional experience working in environment and/or climate sectors, including designing and implementing programs/projects (e.g., to design, conduct, and apply indicators on environment and climate change in agricultural markets), providing technical assistance and promoting knowledge-sharing and learning.
3. Proven experience working on environment, natural resource management, biodiversity and climate change.
4. Proven ability in building organizational and individual capacity in environment and climate action through support, coaching, mentoring and training initiatives, either independently, or as part of a team and designing and implementing participatory learning/knowledge management tools and processes.
